Going by the image on the FEAR 2 box, Becket looks quite similar to Chris Redfield, so it's not too hard to imagine that's Becket (especially for me, as I never really got into Resident Evil, so Chris isn't all that familiar to me).

Thanks! And yes, those were my thoughts exactly when I chose to use Chris Redfield in this picture. The similar appearances and because he was a just as capable and awesome soldier as Redfield.

He is. Of course, F3AR changed his appearance as well as making him a ranting, insane minor character and sweeping him aside like a piece of dirt, but I don't consider F3AR a true FEAR game. No matter what the wiki says, it is not a Monolith game andΒ so should not be consideredΒ part of the Monolith timeline.

Yeah I didn't like what they did to him in F3AR either. Complete disservice to the character and everything he and the player went through in FEAR 2.

It seems to happen a lot when a series is given to a new developer and new writers. It's similar to what happened with Knights of the Old Republic 2 - Obsidian wanted to use the franchise to tell their own story with their own characters, so they just went:Β "You know that character you played a whole game as, who had a really interesting story, and last you saw was either about to finally hook up with their love interest, conquer the galaxy, or both? Yeah, s/he ran away and never came back. Here's someone new you're just going to LOVE! Oh and by the way, all the work you did in that game means nothing because the whole galaxy has gone to shit regardless".Β
It pisses me off that videogame canon is basically set by whoever can afford to set it, and I think it just leaves the whole story fractured, self-contradictory and unsatisfying. You rarely see this sort of thing with novels, I notice. Then it is generally considered the original author's place to tell the story and nobody else's, and if another author does pick up the series, (like Eoin Colfer with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, for instance) it isn't really considered canon.
