I think the MasterChief John-117 can acknowledge and understand the emotion and their special bond. But he can't express his feeling as the civilians. hugging, kissing, showing some kind intimacy was not forte of the Spartan. He was just holding back his feeling and emotion towards Cortana, when he could not do that any more, he broke.Β
