Luca took a drag from his cigarette one last time before killing it and tossing it in the bin. It was cold as the devil's tits out, and the blue dressage jacket hardly helped warm him from the cold Irish gales that forced shivers down his spine. He sneered at the entrants list- not at any of the riders- but at "Italian warmblood" as Kore's breed. It was a necessity when riding out of country however, and in his annoyance he crumpled the list, also tossing it in the bin before watching another entrant exit the arena.
"Ready, Korey?" he asked softly, patting the bay mare's neck. The mare slightly nodded her head, licking her lips as he carefully lifted himself into the saddle. The docile mare waited patiently for him to tell her to move before she started a slow trot, towards the dark gated entrance of the arena. The new environment and the enticing squash and pumpkins on the side of the arena didn't seem to phase mare. The chill of the morning left their breaths hanging in the air as they bowed to the judges before beginning the circuit.

The bay mare wasn't the best out there, low-level at best and that was in partial as to why they weren't riding with a double bridle. Her strong points were clearly in the collected trot, walk, and canter. She took transitions a little slowly, which meant the timing was off by a bit more and more. She didn't hollow out her back when they did the extended trot, but it was clear by the constant flicking of her ears that she was insecure about what Luca was asking her. Her transition to a simple half-pass was slower than normal, but since dressage wasn't timed there was no need to speed her up. They could take their time, letting the judges see just how beautiful and wonderful Luca's special little mare was.
The score didn't matter much to Luca. She was his princessa, and the bay mare could do not a single step wrong- and anyone who said otherwise would face his Sicilian wrath. At the end of the competition, after switching to his preferred dark leather gloves and cooling Kore off, he gave her a few tangerine and orange flavored hard candies before he groomed out any sweat that had accumulated in her coat. Once she was properly clean he put her rug and halter on her. He would keep her thick mane up in the braids for now- at least until it was time to travel back home.
