It had been an akward few weeks. Neither of them had said much at all. When their eyes met, they flew away quickly. Neither seemed to have an easy time acknowledging the other.
He had been the one to ask if she might walk with him, and she was not sure what he had hoped to gain from it as they both walked on together in a strange, tense silence beneath the darkening skies.
Soon, small bits of white fell all about them, and he glanced at her and couldn't help noticing how red her cheeks were. Her ears and nose were none to different, and she constantly rubbed her arms, her teeth chattering rapidly against one another.
He said nothing as he slid his coat off of himself and she did not seem to notice he had done this at all until he draped the garment around her chilled shoulders.
"You look cold," he said gruffly.
Startled, she glanced up and realizing what he had done she let two words slip from her mouth before she even realized what she was doing.
"Thank you," she said.
And he thought, as he looked at her that her, that her mouth had dimpled ever so slightly at the corners.
She had smiled at him, faintly, but still he was certain he had seen it, and he felt so warm from it he was also certain he needed no coat at all.

I've been working quite hard on this when I should be doing a lot of other things (like sleeping), but once this scene came to me I couldn't get it out of my mind, it commanded I let it loose.

This is a small scene between to of my characters named Biest and Cosette, the beauty and beast respectively in a version of the popular fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast" that I have been working on for a while. For those of you who have been keeping tabs, I am not sure if this scene will appear yet in the story or not. It's not exactly spoiler material I think. For those of you unfamiliar but interested, all you need to do is check out my gallery, there you can find much more lit and art pieces on the subject.

This took me about 5 hours to finish, from sketch to final treatment. Watercolor paint, color pencil, white gellyroller pen and mechanical pencil, I unfortuneatly jumped the gun and was so excited to do this that I used the crappy paper it was first sketched on. It wrinkled a lot as a result and some areas, like her hand were affected. Despite my best efforts I can' fix it. There are a lot of faws in this piece. Her eyes bother me a bit, but then there is stuff I really enjoy too. I really enjoy how his belt came out.
