Malay Lacewing Butterfly - Noorder Dierenpark Emmen (The Netherlands)The pattern on the tips of this butterfly's wings reminds me of the spots I see when I get an optical migraine attack
Not the most fun thing to be reminded of, but that's not this butterfly's fault. I did however, strangely felt a bond with it because of that.
The underside of it's wings are gorgeous, so this is one butterfly you don't mind photographing when it has it's wings folded.

Oh, you get migraines too? Dang, sorry to hear that. I wouldn't wish a migaine on my worst enemy. I get 3-4 day migraines on my right side and you mentioned opticals, I'll get a dark wave or dot in the far corner that follows my pulse. No pretty colors for me, just a dark shadow, like a Nazgul

And I hear you; it's horrible and I am sorry to hear you suffer from it too
Mine is always a little blind spot in the center of my vision, which gradually expands and then fades out of vision.
The outer ring of the blind spot is flickering and looks like the pattern on this butterfly's wings.
It takes about 20 to 30 minutes for it to disappear.
And then the headache starts
But did you just say your migraine attacks last for a couple of days?

Yes, mine last for 3-4 days. The good thing is that they fade in intensity and duration over years. When I first had mine I had to be sealed into a black room and would sleep most of the time in agony wanting to unscrew my head and put it in a freezer. The pain would make me feel like I was going to die and afraid I wouldn't. Now they have faded to just minor annoyances not much worse than a normal persons headache. Mine would start with a flicker in the corner of the eye, an aversion to stress and to certian foods with exotic make-ups like cheese and wine, and bad dept perception, then the pain and light sensitivity would start....

Na I'm too stubborn, just the standard over the counter stuff. When I had them bad the only meds had to be taken before the migraine hit during early symptoms but I would frequently wake up with mine so it would be too late to bother, plus I have a job where I shouldn't be loaded up with meds
