I'm not sure what's going on with the background, but it does give depth to the wall...though from what I can tell the way you painted this there is just a crazy amount of texture to everything. (I'm not an artist! Sorry. ^^)

What I love is this theme that jumps out at me, of almost seen but not seen. First thing that strikes me the most is her breast. Her shirt is falling off but not off. It almost gives the impression that she is relaxed and at ease, yet she's holding the shirt up, giving the even stronger impression that within this supposedly relaxed setting she is not at ease...

And then of course, she's staring contemplatively out the window. There seems to be something inherently sad about it. Her head resting lightly on her hand, head heavy in such a way that she feels wholly lost in thought.

And the outside is so bright! So sunny! And she's high up, like a Rapunzel in her tower. (Though my first instinct is to call her Magdalena, or Marlena, or something that begins with an M and has a rich, full-bodied sound. A very womanly name that invokes both beauty, strength, and silent but crushing pain.) The room in which she's standing is so dark, her posture leaning forward as though longing to join whatever she's looking down at. But there is also a feeling of complete stillness in her posture, as though she's resigned.

Oh, and the blank walls. Huh. So ultimately, I get the sense of a sad woman with duties - to a husband, perhaps? - who still has dreams but no longer cultivates them, is filling/has filled her expected role and while she still longs for something, she remains as she is and won't chase them. She feels like she's losing her emotion, has lost a sense of who she is, and only in certain moments, like this one, does she remember, and wish, and dream with the sadness of one who knows her dream is forever beyond her reach.

Wow what a long review! And I could still go on. There's so much I didn't even mention!

Well. Um. Take it as a particularly long-winded compliment??? >_<

But I'd love to hear what you had in mind when you had the idea for this, when you were painting it, and when you had finished. It could be fun to see your interpretations and intentions vs how I read it. ^^

What is a ventana? >_>

This is a really beautiful piece. It has real grace. I like the juxtaposition of the strong, straight composition with the somberness of her mood. The lights and shadows are masterful, except for the one on her leg! All in all, a very successful piece.
