What a stunning butterfly! Amazing how they combine two such contrasting colours on their wings. Great job on getting so close to this one, butterflies tend to be really easily frightened

Β Thank you for the comment! Yeah, this species is among the most beautiful I've ever encountered, I think it only loses to the morpho butterflies Β In fact, only the males have that dark blue on their wings, the females are quite different, take a look i1.treknature.com/photos/8377/β¦ Β Yes, This individual in particular allowed me to take only a few shots before going away, as usual with butterflies

I can imagine! It must be a treat to have such pretty species around. We have some beautiful butterflies too (like the Atalanta:Β urbanbutterflygarden.co.uk/wp-β¦ ) but it is not really a match for the shimmering species of the tropics. I agree, the morphos are very impressive and beautiful for sure!Oh, that's really interesting to see. I know of some species of butterfly where the females actually have several different colour patterns, depending on what poisonous species they mimic, but the males are always the same

Β For me it is a privilege to have such diversity of species without needing to go far away from home to see them. Wow this red admiral is a very beautiful one! I don't know exactly how many butterflies of the genus Vanessa we have here (well, besides Vanessa braziliensis of course) but they're all somewhat similar www.learnaboutbutterflies.com/β¦ Β I don't know much about european butterflies but you guys have some cool species too, like the the peacock butterfly, are these common in your area? Another one that i like is the alcon blue butterfly because of the relationship it develops with ants, but i think it's population is decreasing, very sad Β Cool, i didn't knew that! When someone talks about mimetism in butterflies i automatically think of the genus heliconius, but i don't think that the dimorphism is so accentuated in them. Another genus of butterflies that commonly have differences between male and female is Papilio
