Description Koffing and weezing are filled with lighter than air toxic gases that allow them to hover slightly above the ground. They can propel themselves through the air by shooting jets of gas out of their many crater-like holes. The also use the gas to poison prey and would be predators.

Like many deep-sea fish, male weezing permanently attach themselves the female and begin to atrophy until they are nothing more than a sack of hormone triggered gonads.

Sea creatures are always a good fallback for the weirder pokemon. There are a lot of strange things living under the sea.

What a great "realistic" interpretation for what most people would see as little more than a big purple gassbag!Β  I always thought of the second head on a Weezing to be an offspring dividing by fission, but I forgot about the way that certain male fish attach themselves to the larger female, and I like your explanation better!

Sweet take - was considering bloated slugs for them (for a scene in a fanfic I'm writing) but your version's deliciously awesome.

So, how do they obtain this gas? I'm guessing by either eating leaves constantly, and processing them, or by ingesting factory fumes and smoke.

Wow! I've known about the angler fish thing for a long time, but I never thought of applying it to weezing! That's such a smart idea! I don't know why I never never made that connection!

Not the most attractive of creatures. I actually found the original koffing pretty appealing, due to its cheeky expression it's always seen with, but "real" koffings don't have similar appeal... Though I guess it's just as well, considering their toxicity.

Koffing was one of my favourite Pokemon (because he has the face in the cartoon), and you based them off one of my favourite real life animals! Anglerfish reproduction is weird.

I wasn't sure how you'd pull a Pokemon that really barely resembled anything more than a rock, but I have to say I am pleased.

RtRadke In reply to SheepEatWires [2009-12-09 23:15:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, this one actually wasn't that hard to figure out, especially when I was thinking about the fact that they had two heads stuck together. For some reason deep sea fish just came to mind.

Also, i wanted them to bear some similarity to the ghastly family.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

GranOmega-7 In reply to RtRadke [2013-10-18 23:20:00 +0000 UTC]

thats not so strange. gastly, haunter, gengar and wezing/koffing are all in the breeding group, amorphous along with grimer/muk. so a genetic similarity wouldn't so unsound.

SheepEatWires In reply to RtRadke [2009-12-09 23:16:48 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, I remember them. You gave them a deep sea inspired design too. I always thought Koffing and Ghastly seemed similar in the show, so it makes sense.
