So it's finished ( probably ) ...the photo I've taken of it isn't the best, but the light isn't so good now so I'll have to try taking another some other time.

This is the scene from the 1940's film Brief Encounter where the two main characters, Laura Jesson and Dr Alec Harvey played by Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard, first meet and he removes a piece of grit from her eye

2nd WIP [link]
3rd WIP [link]
4th WIP [link]

Stats:

A3 Bristol Board (so a bit smaller than my usual size)
4H, H, HB, B, 5B & 8B wooded pencils
HB, B, 2B, 3B & 4B 0.5 mechanical pencils
cotton buds
Kneadable eraser

I think it took me between 50 & 60 hours, but I'm not so sure because I put it aside for 9 months.

EDIT : I've updated the image for a scanned one, it's a bit brighter and I think more in focus too.
Also I've added a couple of close-ups in my scraps [link] and [link]

I loved everything in this movie. And I love this draw too: the focus on the characters versus the blurred background, the clothes textures.
Thanks for sharing.

well as a monster who stops people from trying to draw I feel compelled to cut off my hands...not that my left hand is all that fantastic..apart from holding on to things....which is pretty useful actually.

Omg. I don't think I'd have the patience to do something like this. It's simply AMAZING. The details, the shading, texture, everything about it just amazes me. You did a wonderful job capturing that moment and Trevor Howard's wrinkles look so natural. Wow. This is just stunning. Marvelous work!

I heard on the radio a small part of a Rachmaninoff's piano concert and I while I was hearing it I immediatly pictured a train trip...
A few days later I discovered Brief Encounter on imdb and as I was searching for this movie on other sites I discovered that the soudtrack included that Rachmaninoff's piano concert I have heard on the radio! This was so magical, that I decided I would have to watch this. And I wasn't disappointed, it is very romantic and touching.
A great love story.
Thank you for sharing this.

Gasp! I saw this movie earlier this year and fell in love with it! It's such a beautiful story and that Rachmaninoff piece has been my favorite song ever for many years. It was the perfect soundtrack. And this was such a perfect choice of a scene to draw. You've done such a wonderful job. I really love it.

thanks!....no that was Mary Astor, but they are quite similar in many respects so I can understand why you would have thought so.
