Being a superhero is very unnatural to Richard. Therefore, I think that he would get this idea (like helping others, doing good deeds etc.) only if he found the mask. But in spite of that, the original noble thought would be held only for a moment, because... Let's be honest, seeing the world burn is far more enjoyable.
With a mask, his personality would change to something between Cardinal Copia, Joker, Mask and maybe group of the most famous killers. Just more psychopathic sadistic vampire who can cast to the world a mass epidemic, and he is more than happy to dance on your grave.
