Description After so much experiments and test renders to get to a (for me) working skin shader I felt it was time to go back in time. To load up one of the first things I did in Octane and re-fit it with my new shader. Now Faith her skin looks much more alive. There is much more going on.

Thanks Scott! Yes, her skin works really well. The difference between this one and the very first one is quite large.

This is excellent work mate, love the lighting...the subtle shadows on the wall cast by the window and tree....just lovely.

Thanks man! This setup is actually one of the first ones I did in Octane after having used it quite a bit in Daz. I'm a huge fan of a window where light comes through to illuminate the room, as is quite obvious as a common thing in a lot of my renders. The tree shadow is coming from a tree that I borrowed from StoneMasons Streets of Asia II. Like the little pine tree bonsai in the back.

It's the ultimate shot to try an achieve..other than an outdoor one that looks realistic.
You made all the elements in this scene work together very nicely mate.

Thanks my friend. I'm starting to realize that with all the focus on finding the right skin shader approach I've totally lost why I like rendering so much. Creating a cool scene

Oh yeah, its so easy to get side tracked....but when you find your way back you will discover how much you learnt via those detours.

I have quite a few vid tutorials I need to watch and books to read but hate sacrificing the time to do so - would rather be doing - time is not our friend

Yeah man, it's all part of the process Every single render experiment needed to be there to have understand just that bit more. And this is bound to continue

Overall it is great but what really grabs my personal attention is how well you have got Nightfever hair to render. I've yet to get any success with that particular hair prop.

Thanks! I didn't change anything with this particular use of NightFever. However, I've made some close up renders with Faith and for those I redid the textures. First I doubled the resolution and then used other hair textures to improve the quality for Diffuse and Opacity. The only thing I could mention is that the Bump power is set to around 0.08. The Bump textures of hair quite often ruin the overall look.

Appreciate the feedback, I'll look deeper into those settings. Up to now I have largely controlled the appearance of hair through specular setting.

Great image again.

I have a couple of renders where I myself am blown away by the outcome. The beauty of the skin, or how it reacts in that certain light condition. But what's killing it is most of the times the hair. The hair props I bought and use are mostly quite poor in quality. The mesh might be okay and usable, but the texturing is just enough for screen resolution rendering. I've been trying to create some version of a shader that can handle it better, but with no real luck so far. Therefor upgrading the quality of the textures, especially the bump maps can already do quite a bit.

As with skin, using diffuse and specular will increase the quality of the behavior, but I've learned its a similar process like a shader for the eyes. Time consuming experimenting

Did you try to add some post-effects like bloom/glare? It can improve visual perception.

Hi, yes, there is some bloom and glare. But I didn't want to over do it. I really want to retry this scene with fog and dust particles.
