Bates forever resented the mother he never knew he had, the mother that left him to die that night in the snow. That night, when Amaterasu had found him, cold, and almost lifeless, she vowed to raise him as her own. She longed to be the mother he never had, and tried to prove him wrong time and again that he was loved, cared for, and will never know pain and loneliness again. Ama might not have been able to undo the wrongs that had been done to her new son, but she would strive to show him the light wherever she could. So that one day he would be ready to take on the world again and discard his troubled past entirely. So that he would be able to spread his wings and set flight to the sky.
