*EDIT*I never thought that I would have to say this, but with the invention of Pinterest, I see this popping up on the "popular" page all the time. I am flattered, truly, but the picture NEVER links back to this image. Just to a Bing search. If you like this design, feel free to pin it! But please, source it back here so it's not just another random image on the internet. And please, if you want to use it, just ASK! Once upon a time, before this image ended up everywhere, I was going to have it permanently inked on my body as a highly personal bit of art. I've since seen quite a few images of people who just went ahead and stole my tattoo, so I no longer have any intentions of having this done. Ask, as I'll probably say yes. Truly. Just please stop stealing my art and posting it without sources. Bing Images didn't draw this, I did.

I'm still working on my sea turtle tattoo, just wanted to post an update on how it's going. I altered my original design to include 2 infinity signs (in the negative space) and have just played around with it little by little since then. The third one is too round (I traced a cup to make it a perfect circle) but I was just trying to figure out the symmetry. God knows I don't want a fat turtle inked on my skin forever!
I'm thinking it will be more of a mixture between #2 (I like how it's cute and simple) and #4 (which is just more detailed than I was planning on going, but I like the shapes I think)
I'll post the final design once I finally settle on one.
**DO NOT USE THIS IMAGE!! I am going to get it tattooed as soon as I finish it up and I don't want to see it on anyone else. Everything about this tattoo has significance to me, so please don't steal!**

wow, I am so glad I followed the link on Pinterest, it never would've occurred to me to ask permission to use an image. But you're absolutely right, you deserve credit for what you have created. I am interested in using the 4th image to make a stencil or vinyl cut-out for a stool I'm refinishing. Thanks for your consideration!

I'm sorry that people stole your design and now it does not have the same significance for you. I would like to ask your permission to use it to make an embroidery design for my granddaughter. She loves sea turtles also. I would not be selling the design or the embroidery.

I know you said these are entitled specifically to you, but... would you either be willing to lemme use one of these designs on my leg whenever I get my own tattoo done, or could you draw another one just for me as like, a request or commission? ^.^ I'd be willing to pay if I have to. <.< Mind you, I don't have much.

Let me know what you'd like, I would absolutely be willing to come up with something for you! I've never done a commission before, but assuming you'd like a fairly simple design (since most of my turtles are sort of sweet and simple) it wouldn't take me too long once I came up with a concept sketch. If you have an idea (maybe a specific turtle you'd like me to start with) and a size, I can see if there's anything I can do for you

I can try to start on that ASAP for ya. It usually takes me a couple hours for a simple design like that before I'm happy with it (I drew almost 50 variations on my turtle before I was happy with one, but I was being very very critical of it too), so how does $15 sound? it's a small design and I'd feel weird asking for more, let me know if that sounds too high for you and I'll get started.

Well my mom is getting her first tattoo and I was really excited when she told me I could get one too. I had wanted to get a sea turtle tattooed on me ever since I went to Hawaii last year and had an amazing experience swimming with one. I wanted to wait until I went back to Hawaii to get it but now nothing else seems as special to me now.
I was originally planning on getting a crescent moon and a star, then I thought I might like a cross better. Though I don't think either would look good in a turtle. I do like plumeria flowers so I might decide to do something with that.
If you have any suggestions that would be wonderful!

My mom and I were supposed to get tatts together for her 50th... that was almost a year ago. She chickened out LOL
My love for turtles actually started when I was in Hawaii too. I went with my high school's marching band and saw one while snorkeling and I just loved it! So now I have quite a collection. I get stuff with turtles on it all the time for birthdays and Christmas from everyone I know LOL.
The nice thing about turtles as a tattoo design is that they're pretty symmetrical (something that I am a little OCD about, not sure why) and the shell is like a blank canvas. You could put pretty much anything on a turtle shell and it would look fine. The cross would actually fit really well I think since it's also symmetrical and it's a little longer than it is wide (like the shell) but it depends on how literal you want it to be.
Any good tattoo artist will be able to doodle you up an awesome design no matter what you want to put on the shell. My rule of thumb for tattoos is that I have to like the same design for a year before I'll get it. That's why I don't have any yet LOL! I change my mind a lot and don't want something permanently on my skin if I'm going to come up with a better design later on. I've finally settled on my turtle and it's shell pattern, now I just need to figure out where to put it!

all of your turtle drawings are amazing! i'm thinking about getting a turtle tattoo in the next couple weeks but i don't know what i want mine to look like yet.. how do you come up with a design to draw on its shell?

The first one just sort of came out really. Sometimes I go through periods where I can't draw for crap, LOL. Then other times I just grab an pen and start drawing without a real plan for the result. The first one was really the latter. I liked the original, but just altered it a little bit at a time and then I changed it to suit me.
My suggestion is to combine things that are important to you into a cohesive design. I don't like tattoos that look like a bunch of random stuff stuck together, I like to blend them. For example, my design morphed into 2 infinity symbols in the negative space. That's because I like the subtlety more than just showing it.
Is there anything you wanted in particular? I can maybe suggest something for you

yeah I know. i've seen it before but this 4-set is new. I think you should do it in blue (cuz you love blue so much) or a magenta or purple, because purple looks kick ass on white skin.

Oh ok, I wasn't sure if I had shown you or not. I thought about blue, but blue turtles just look weird to me. I do love pinks and purples on skin, but you know how much I love the color pink, LOL!

Haha! I think that a maroon or deep purple would look really good. Blue would be kinda lame on a SEA turtle anyway. Yeah I'm thinking about a blue jay. I think it would be cool... but I don't know yet...
