Description Beautiful, blind Galatea
Did she truly find her love in a sculpture of stone?
Was he the victim of a witch's curse
That forbid him love as well?

For when she kissed the rock
The stone-man crumbled
And heart-broken Galatea
Could only gather one small piece of 'him'
From the sandy bottom

And forevermore she wore the stone around her neck
Where even disbelievers could hear
What sounded like a tiny heartbeat

A beautiful illustration of the story. I thought, in the myth of Pygmalion, that Galatea was the stone sculpture created by Pygmalion as an ideal woman? I like this version, too, though. It reminds me of the Disney version of The Little Mermaid--when the statue of the prince is shattered, and all that remains is a chunk of his face.

I like the texture of the mermaid's fins--it almost looks like chipped stone itself.

Thank you for your kind comments! You are correct in that I did reverse the Galatea story. And I've never seen The Little Mermaid, but some people see similarities in some of my work. It's an interesting synchronicity. Thanks again for stopping by and commenting. I appreciate it very much.

My pleasure! Yours is a very cool variation on the Pygmalion/Galatea myth.
