Jet Set Radio is my favorite game on the Dreamcast.

It's really sad there are no new games for Dreamcast but right now I'm fine playing the old ones... Sonic Adventure as a special childhood memory, Virtua Tennis 2 as a really awesome game, Dead or Alive 2 (although I need to be careful with this one; sometimes the files of it just... vanish and kill Virtua Tennis 2 players ._.) aaaand Ecco the Dolphin - Defender of the future (as if I would ever play this game, I really don't have the nerves for something scary like that)

I don't have one, nor have I played one, but was thinking about getting one, I know a place where they're about 40 or so dollars. Wonder what games it has.
This stamp is pretty cool.

I have never owned a Dreamcast or played one but I do realize that it was probably the best system of its time

Of all of the various successes and failures of the video game industry, this one is by far the strangest to me. That SEGA would leave the console making business with by far their biggest success and best machine.
The Dreamcast had revolutionary features five years ahead of it's time (like online connections), it had according to some the "best ratio of good games to bad gam,e of any console" and on top of all that it managed to outsell in it's opening week.
All of these elements were there for SEGA to make a huge comeback into console making after the sales failure of their previous effort, the Saturn.
But instead, they cut production of the Dreamcast shortly after it's launch and decided then and there to stop making consoles altogether.
Clearly they have the skill and means to make really good consoles with ahead-of-their time features and they just decided to stop?
Madness. Absolute madness.
Still. At least we can all take solace in the fact that it was well loved in it's short time among us and that we still remember it fondly today. As legacies go, it's a good one.

I think Sega were losing too much money on it at the time as well.

the problem was that before the Dreamcast it has been years since Sega had a successful console so their wasn't much faith in them and the Playstation 2 was just too popular for the Dreamcast to compete

The Sega Dreamcast was the bee's knees. I owned one up until 2005 (it just stopped working for whatever reason) and miss it dearly. D: If I could ever find another one I'd trade my Wii, PS3 and 360 for it anyday.

I still love my Dreamcast, yet I'm very upset it won't let me play Skies of Arcadia anymore. ;o; (Which is odd because it plays Sonic Adventure, RE Code: Veronica and Soul Calibur just fine)
Most of the games for this system had awesome graphics and soundtracks. It really is a shame Dreamcast was so short lived. u_u;

I blame the third party developers. They didn't even try on them. Look at Sega's in house games, they were beautiful on the DC, but the other guys...screwed everything up.
DC=Love.

I say they should have never got rid of it. Its the father of all modern Next-Gen systems.
I mean, if DC never came around, would we have had PS2, or Game Cube, or XBox? Nope. I bet not.
'Sides, Microsoft ripped off the DC controller style anyway.

Oh yea man i couldn't agree more.
However i do think Nintendo would still be revolutionizing gaming the way they continue to do.
But yea, Dreamcast was way before its time. And set the bar, high.
