Description I saw Richard Friend was uploading his inks over Finch and I wanted to show off mine.

I inked two pages for X-men Second Coming issue 1. I was completely uncredited. I was supposed to get a special thanks, but oh well.

I think I did a decent job for having to rush these. Anyone else that inks Finch has at least 10 years more experience than I so it was a chance to try and step up.

The book printed like horse dookie, all the lines were super pixelated.

Mostly Raphael 8404 and classic Hunt 102 nib.

You'd think they'd learn to print comics with clean linework and not too dark by now but still seem to make the same mistakes over and over.Sorry the linework wasnt clean in print. But the page looks great here man, slick and meaty!

Solid job inking Finch. I haven't gone anything by finch yet but he looks crazy fun and hard to ink.

Also you may want to switch your 8404 with their newer 8408 its got an extra fine/sharp tip. I just started using the 8408's and they are crazy good for inking. This is coming from a die hard fan of the 8404's btw.

Yeah I use the 8408 sometimes, espeially when I wanna do those Scott Williams "T" shaped reneder lines.

I just don't like it for everything.

But thanks for the tip!(fine tip that is! bwah hah ha!)

Stunning brush handling. Fantastic rendering, totally preserving the pencils and yet showcasing your own imprint.
Impressive!
You got a new fan, Sir.

Great inks on this page! I love how you handled the gritty pittedness of the metal work on van and villains. I see what Joe was saying, it is a very strong face. And speaking of I like the evil crusties face coming apart via Wild-Thing , or at least I think that is her. This must have been a lot of fun to ink. Finch's work is always incredible and you put down some impressive ink over it. Great stuff!

Wow, how rude/unprofessional of them! Quite a disappointment, seeing how big Marvel is...
But anyway, it's a fantastically inked page! The second panel is my favorite. The shattered glass looks like a pain in the butt to do. xD

The glass could have been better if I didn't rush it. Dave makes it easy, everything is there in his pencils.

work without credit?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RyanWinn In reply to Muady [2010-06-14 21:37:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeppers.
You usually get paid a little more from whomever hires you.

A lot of writers in Hollywood work this way for years before breaking out on their own.

A lot of comic book artists use guys in there studios and pay them with knowlegde and work(and money too) but then can retain their solo credit in the book which editors prefer.

Muady In reply to RyanWinn [2010-06-14 21:39:22 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes people seem to get credit tho.

I got a spiderman comic here with tim townsend and then like 3 more names. And they only did a few pages

RyanWinn In reply to Muady [2010-06-14 21:49:21 +0000 UTC]

Not everyone works the same way. Sometimes everyone is credited, sometimes no. Depends on the artist, depends on the editor. Que cera, cera.

Off topic- how good is that Ema Rios stuff in that Spider-Man issue? I wonder if She's on DA.

Ema Rios? Afraid i dont know her work

She split the "Shed" issues with Bachalo and Townsend. Or were you looking at older issues?

Hows about ya "Winn" some, ya lose some.

Muady In reply to RyanWinn [2010-06-15 00:46:22 +0000 UTC]

Im a bit behind on spiderman here since they keep
droping and then publishing it here again...

But yeah that issue is maybe a year old...

Everytime i winn something i get a rash

looks great Ryan!
did you send the pages into Marvel and let them scan it? If so, DONT EVER DO THAT!!! For some reason, thier scans always turn out awful.
Scan it yourself, and send in the tiff, then send the original page back fedex....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RyanWinn In reply to RolandParis [2010-06-14 20:47:15 +0000 UTC]

I scanned it myself because I was aware of that. I'm super picky about how to scan too.

My gut tells me the sent the low res proof file to print. It's happened before. Sad Trombone.
