This took all week. But I did. I got it done! I didn't really know what to call it. Cardverse? Undercard? Underdeck? Decktale? Cardtale? (most of these provided by a friend). Just gonna go with Cardtale... derpI picked the more heavy plot point/main characters first and sorted them. Some characters where an immediate given. I definitely wanted Frisk to be the ace of hearts, Mettaton the king of diamonds, Sans as the joker, etc. For the side characters, I asked friends which ones were their favorites.
I also decided that (other than Mettaton) the diamonds were to be store owners/vendors/etc. I know Grillby doesn't sell anything to the player specifically, but he does own a bar (and he was my pic *cough cough). The hearts are the two main humans, Chara and Frisk. After that, I chose Flowey and Asriel in order of their soul (stealing) count.
Papyrus was interesting. I think, in the very begging, he was gonna be a spade/club (this was before I picked where Toriel and Asgore would end up too) but the skelebros seem to stick to one another like glue. However, I think Paps suits (pun intended) the title of Wild Card over Joker.
Seriously, Joker Sans and Wild Card Papyrus.

Technically, Mettaton does own the store Burgerpants works at, so he still fits in with the diamonds according to your choice! ^^
