Description
The sloth bear, a surly, cantankerous, easily startled bear that is the species Baloo belongs to in The Jungle Book, by Rudyard Kipling. This is actually the scariest bear of all as far as I'm concerned, because I've read stories by Jim Corbett and others on how man-eating sloth bears liked to literally suck out the guts of the people they killed and ate. I've seen videos of a mother sloth bear fighting off a tiger as well, so I find them particularly frightening, despite the fact they are tigers' prey. They also fear the calls of sambar and chital deer as a result of tigers being able to mimic the sound to lure in prey.
