Description Zhuchengtyrannus is one of the largest tyrannosaurids ever discovered, possibly second only to T. rex itself in size. Known primarily from a skull, Zhuchengtyrannus is most closely related to Tarbosaurus, Lythronax and Tyrannosaurus rex. In the Wangshi group, the formation from which it is known, it was likely the top predator, preying on hadrosaurs such as Shantungosaurus, ceratopsians such as Sinoceratops, and other dinosaurs. If it was contemporaneous with Tarbosaurus, the two species may have competed for food and territory.

Part of my project to draw all the tyrannosaurs currently known. Here, i portrayed a newly mated pair of Zhuchengtyrannus bonding by grooming. The female (standing) licks clean the wounds and scars of her mate to better allow them to heal. Inspired in part by the fact that "Wyrex" the Tyrannosaurus had lost 2/3rds of his tail and survived, i figured that Tyrannosaurids might have cleaned their wounds like many modern predators do. whether they used their tongues like i have portrayed here is unclear. I personally do not believe that dinosaur tongues were so inflexible as they could not be used for grooming or licking meat off bones.
