Tak pierwsza próba, ale miałam dobrą mentorkę przyznam .
Anatomia, anatomia, anatomia czyli moja zmora ^~.
Pozdrawiam .

It's so innocent and sweet! And I love how his hair comes out of the frame in a sort of breaking-the-fourth-wall effect.

I was just checking my watchers on my other account to see how they were doing and this was just simply amazing! It's so colorful and vivid, not to mention my style. It's so lively and wonderful! Switching from drawing to painting is pretty tough at first, but watercolor is a very forgiving and colorful media- one of my favorites. This picture actually reminds me of a tarot card or a tapestry, idk. I'm really loving it.

I learned a technique last year in art class that oil pastels blend with oil paint (and thinner) while chalk pastels and watercolors blend with water. Maybe you should try sketching out or lightly coloring ambient or base colors with chalk pastel, use water to spread them out, and the do watercolors on top of that. You can keep layering like this if you give it time to dry or dry it with a hairdryer. I've only actually done it once before, and I think it worked out great.
In most of my pictures (more on my other account), I do a more Art Nouveau/anime mix (usually not intentionally) and when I do the lineart, I make the subject or the thing that is closest to the viewer more bold- by making the lines thicker around them. I learned to do this in the middle of my art class last year too. That helps the coloring and makes things stand out in my opinion. I use brush pens and ink pens with different thicknesses to help. You could probably use a calligraphy pen too, but it's probably a lot harder.
[link] This is probably my best example- the hand is outlined in front of the figure more and the body and hair are also bold, but the lines within that are not connected to the background aren't.
[link] This is one I'm working on now- I didn't really get the lines down as good and uniform as I could have but oh well. It'll be dark around her anyways.
[link]
[link] This one doesn't show it as much but you get the point, neh? This was when I was just starting to get the hang of it.
Well, I'm not an expert, I just LOVE watercolors. Also- try to start with the lightest colors first (which I don't because I'm lazy but you should... ><
Eh, that's all I have for now. :3 gl!

Oh, and forgot to mention, great choice in using green and red. I hate them together, but they're opposite colors which work great. Even though it sounds weird, as a word of advice, you might want to blend as many colors in the picture with shadows where you wouldn't expect it. It's hard to explain, but if you do it when you really get used to painting, it'll help a lot. For example...
[link] - the blue covers most of the character's body on the edges where water glows.
[link] - purple glow on the edge of the cape and in the shadows
great example here- [link] -you'll find all sorts of blues, greens, and purples in the shadows and glows
this might be something you'd relate to - [link] -just look closely at the hair, clothes, etc. It's not all one color, and it's not one color with a bunch of values, either.
It takes time to learn and observe the techniques, but always establish a light source, and that may even include an ambient color for mood or effect.
Unless you're going for a bold and graphic look, blending colors especially with a dominant color in the picture or with an ambiance like you have green here helps. I'm not really good at it yet, and it's pretty tricky with watercolors. ><

Masking things aren't needed (and tape would prolly ruin the paper when you'd take it off). I am not sure if you would be able to use this masking fluid if you'd try. It smells like hell and it's quite thick (but I guess it depends on the brand). So, it's not very flexible to start with, and you'd need a thin, thin AND crappy brush to apply it since it destroys everything it touches. Then after you painted you have to wait LONG for the paper to dry for sure and take it away with a hard plastic eraser and then you'll break your paper. Wait a couple of years more 'til you'll get the hang of basic panting at first. Gain some experience and see if it's something you REALLY want to do. Then you can buy the masking fluid if it's absolutely necessary.
But I have a little easier tip for the background... Just make a layer of water with your brush and then start adding paint to that. It should give some nice gradience and it saves time. You don't need the most expensive AND complicated methods and materials to get good results, remember that, always. Your own skill is the most important thing and no matter how good materials you have, you won't improve any faster.
And about the picture itself... what's up with all these dark green lines around the bird? Did you try making some shades or did the paint dry faster than you managed to blend it?
His hands look rather stiff too, try putting yours in the same position and see if you can put them the same way. Why are they transparent btw?
Another thing that hit my mind as soon as I saw this would be, if you're copying ~Impostor1 ? Since he just discovered painting himself.

No problem.
But shadows from the bird? Not a very good idea if you think about the light source.
And if the guy is a ghost, you should have used more pale colors on him to show that he is, and preferrably use some of the background paint to make him look more transparent like this too. He looks very much alive and sparkling with all these strong colors ;> (I won't mention hands, that's a practice thing. I've been practicing those for 5 years and they still look weird in some positions, no worries!)
You're watching him on dA, right? So you must've seen it somehow. But nevermind then, I just wondered. (What do you mean by "I have huge arrears about drawing here"? btw, I don't understand, sorry).
M'kay, thanks (: You too!
