A nice touching picture you have here saintwizard , wow!
Have to be honest most times you see Steven and his mom in most pictures, they both together or very close to one another but here its something entirely different. First I have to say remarkable work on capturing the style from the show, that applies to both Steven and the statue of his mother Rose.
Next as mentioned before with how different this is done, must say this is a very mature way you show Steven missing and still wishing for the company of his mother. The fact that the statue itself can't be his mom in any way and yet he sleeps next to it calmly shows just how much he misses her and even the statue feels close enough because it does resemble. Its hard to pinpoint the exact words but it very thoughtful what you idea was here saintwizard and kudos to you for trying to express that connection Steven still shares even with his mother gone.
Additionally too, you did some fine work using your black and white media here. The added touch of the grey used just perfectly where you executed is as both shadowing and even where you used it to create more depth like the folds in the Rose Statue dress, the roundness of Steven's body in his shirt and pants or the many curls that make up the statue and its hair.
The work on the statue reminds me immediately of the episode where they go to her garden to seek out her tears. The statue's face shows that same calmness and even the way the arms open outwards is just very lovely all the same. Back to Steve one last time, good work on showing the way the body likes to sleep in its various poses, mostly with the arms just all over the place instead of where others think they're always on their side, lol.
Sorry this comment was so long winded but in the very least I just wanted to cheer on all your efforts here saintwizard, you did a marvellous job and hats off to you for being creative enough with your work to show such good connection between Steven and Rose, bravo.

Well its not that hard, you just have to spend time to read the work you see and credit deviants for what they have done to impress you when seeing it right off the bat. Like, noticing how the background, the anatomy of the character, the depth of the action scene or emotion being show, stuff like that!
Again its all how you take your time to address people and their work, one of my most biggest fuels for generating all these comments is, "Treat someone the way YOU would want to be treated."
Good luck with your efforts Marl, I know you can do it if you really do try. And it never hurts either. *nods*

hmm....
i see
well, there's never really anything specila about my drawings
so there's not much to go on
sure, there'll be a couple who comment with ''nice'' or ''job well done''
or similar stuff
i suppose i'll just have to practise
ah, when i do comment, i usually don't have the time....
....i do try to comment like that
i mean, the artist person appreciates the nice comment
or the critique given ^^
i suppose i can but i'm afraid not yet.

Its more the case of you having to look at and read artwork whether its on the DA or even just in the books you might see about the ways people draw things differently. Can tell you right now don't look to just your fans alone to give you the full wisdom you need to learn how to improve as those deviants on the site here are quite rare. Its best you look to improve yourself then sitting there waiting for that one day when a great deviant comes by.
Don't mean at all that you won't meet someone here like that on the DA, but it gives more rise to go out there, see what other people can draw and learn and grow while even hopefully meeting some great artists along the way. *nods*
Well then, don't write a critique if you don't want to. Out of ALL the comments I've made here on the DA over the years I have yet to make post of an OFFICIAL DA CRITIQUE. Again its not the case of having to go into IMMENSE detail about someone's work but showing your pay attention to their efforts like how hard the worked on the coloring, the shading or even the background they made. It works out 100x better then just hearing, "good work" after hearing the background looks gorgeous after you spent over a few hours drawing it right?
Marl, don't let fear be what stops you from being a good person, its easier then you think and all it can be sometimes is just stopping for a second and listening to people. You can do this, we all can do this, but everyone chooses not to often enough cause they don't care about anyone else or they're just too scared. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as a deviant used to tell me. Good luck Marl. *shakes hand*

of course, i keep practising ^^
and perhaps some day, i'll be lucky enough...~~
i've already met a couple of amazing [my opinion] artists here that actually reply to me
aswell as being welcomed by someone who is now a senior member
*feels honoured*
ah, same XD
i've never given an official critique yet...
i sppose thye're hard to write :T
of course it does~~
actually, i recently drew something digital
but i'm not used to digital and it felt like things were missing
so, i turned to my watchers and it helped a lot!
it looked much better after
ah, of course ^^
i wish i knew how i could get other deviants and me closer
*shakes hand as well*
i'll suppose i'll see you later

Well there you go and must make note of the fact you did that through the fact of actually talking to them like real people no doubt instead of just leaving them with, "Looks hot," "Sexy," kind of comments, bleh.
They aren't hard to write Marl, just gotta take some extra time in what your reading but again you don't HAVE to do them! ^O^
And good to hear your getting proper feedback from your watchers, that helps any artist a lot on this site. It would be a great thing if anyone could reveal to me too how to connect deviants better but honestly Marl, everyone is different. Its sometimes hard to deviants to follow what you do or sometimes they end up leaving or just ignoring you entirely. Its a gamble, but in the very least it makes it that much more rewarding to meet the good people in between.
Good luck to you and your time spent on the DA as well as your artwork to boot lad. Keep being the friendly person you are and you'll be amazed at what you can get out of the DA, trust me. ^-^

of course, of course
they are real people, you just can't touch them or speak to them face to face
unless you have their skype but then there's still a certain something that creates somewhat of a distance....
heh, i suppose so
but i'm afraid i don't have the confidence to write one either ^^'
yeah, i'm glad about that as well
sure, only around the 20 people are active, but that's enough and fine by me ^^
i even try to interact with those that aren't my watchers
and it did help me out a lot
heh, it's hard getting used to digital art i suppose ^^
but i still prefer traditional
[i kinda have to do something wiht my colour pallette one day~~]
hmm hmm~~
it got me quite far with a 100 watchers within a year
i'll try the best i can!
even though some people still get mad at me every once in a while but alas
nothing i can do about that
and for bringing people together, we have groups
even though it's a meager something as there's usually barely to no interaction at all ^^'
and i've had quite the something from DA already, really~~
but i still have a long way to go~~

Well your certainly on the right track it seems by actually hitting the reply button for starters and typing in more then just, "thanks," and being on your way saint, so give yourself some credit! ^O^
It no problem at all sending the praise to other deviants, especially those with clear and great talents in drawing just like yourself. Take care in your work and know that you do have great potential and creativity in all that you make. I'm not sayings this about this pic along but just as well the others ones you have done like Lion, Finn and even Over The Garden Wall.
I honestly hope that other deviants can appreciate you and your artwork one day saint, you generate some truly moving work. *nods*
