Description "Tell me, young Apeo. Do you want to know how the rulers of each planet are actually chosen?"

        -The Gatekeeper

Yeah this was that "huge project" I was talking about in my previous deviation. I guess it's sort of a poster/teaser/cover for Lunia's story in evomagi?

I figured I'd change things up with a portrait-oriented piece for once. Tall compositions differ from wider ones in that they take a little longer for you to process visually, so the viewer takes them in more slowly. And at roughly 30 hours spread out over five days, it wasn't exactly quick to make either! But honestly, most of the time went into deciding how all the different light sources would interact. There are a total of four light sources here: ambient light from the sky that's also reflected from the ground, the planet's rings, Lunia's armor, and the candle.

So does this mean I've made progress on actually writing the comic? Sadly, no. But to be honest, what's mainly holding me back is deciding on what style to draw everything in. It certainly wouldn't be as detailed as this deviation, but at the same time it won't be as simple as this other comic I made . (On second thought, don't click that. It's pretty cringey.) Style evolution is something that naturally happens over any serialized work of art, but I want to avoid it as much as possible and improve as much as I can before I start the first page so that the look stays fairly consistent from start to finish. Obviously I won't be able to avoid any style evolution, and it's better than de-evolution (lol) but I won't improve by spitting out one deviation every year. Sooooooo, the forecast is that I can begin after I get my graduate degree, which, if nothing disastrous happens, should be in two years. The good news is that should give me a lot of time for actual development, which is good for you guys because that means the story hopefully won't be poorly-edited, cliché-ridden, plot-hole-filled, and heaven forbid, boring.

I like the atmosphere of this one a lot! The time you put into this piece definitely shows; it looks very well thought-out. And also, wow, I did not know that fact about vertical compositions. Hope you don't mind if I steal that tidbit for my future work...

lol, I can't copyright compositional theories, so by all means, go for it! :P Really though the idea mostly stems from the fact that your eyes are lined up horizontally on your face rather than vertically. The more you know!

Very interesting! You learn somethin' new everyday. I'll try to put this new something to good use in the future, lol.

No matter how long it's been, I can always be thankful when you put out another one of these.
Lx. 2 (Yes I called her that) will always be one of my favorite characters from anything. Maybe it's just for the nostalgia of days-gone-by when I was still new to DA. Either way, I'll welcoem any new EVEomagi stuff you put out. Keep it coming, bro.

Yes, I'm happy with the direction that Lunia and the rest of my evomagi stuff is taking. Even if it'll take five years, I'm sure I'll have enough ideas bouncing in my head to have something to show for all this one day!

Well in the meantime. I'll be on the sidelines, cheering you on, whilst at the same time, being absurdly lazy with my own stuff.
Though in truth, I really, REALLY should get my butt in gear. All these ideas, plans for books and whatnot, and I never do anything with them cause of my mastery in procrastination.
HOW U NOT BE LAZY.

...Dat art. Sheesh sir, are you sure you didn't go to art college for the past few years? You baaasically disappeared and then suddenly *bam*, stuff like this. I mean, I'm not even sure what to say here, besides maybe I'm jealous. It's that brilliant combination of simple and dynamic that makes comics work. The angles carry your eyes down the page, creating a zigzag that starts with the planetary rings and ends with the title, containing everything important along the way. The colors are vibrant, not over-the-top, and accentuate the foreground details nicely. Lunia's pose is spatially sound and natural-looking, and the interaction between all the different light sources is sweet.

If I had to point out anything for improvement, I might go for the stars. They look a bit brush-y, organized into streaks. Otherwise wow, pretty much.

Art college? lol I wish. Just engineering for me. At the moment I'm living alone though, which means far less temptation to play video games, which means I do have a bit of time to do art again. I do have to watch out not to become a hermit though. It's pretty quiet around here... Potential for psychological trauma aside though, I'm hoping I can put out stuff of similar quality at a rate of maybe once a month, give or take.

Oof, living entirely alone is sort of weird. I did that for one Thanksgiving break and it was...lonely. Just be sure to get out and talk to people, lol. It's easy to retreat into your own mind, and if yours is anything like mine, that doesn't necessarily bode well. XD
