Personality

To most others she’s considered to be tomboyish and slightly thickheaded. Though despite this she usually may seem slightly childish and kind to the new people she meets, more so if their just kids, but sometimes has a strong presence about her.

She is also very strong, energetic and cheerful, with a smile usually plastered on her face, and very friendly, caring for her friends. She always appears to be bright and cheerful most of the time.

Physical speaking; she is the most capable of taking care of herself, having taken a few sports when she was younger. Because of this she is perfectly capable of taking care of her younger sister on her own.

Though on most rare days she may seem out of it and tired, which weirds everyone out because it seems almost completely out of character for her to be 'not-so-smily.'

History

From as long as she can remember she has always lived with her older brother in England, who she commonly refers to as ‘Ar’ or ‘brother’, who has always just been taking care of her by himself. She never really questioned where or who her parents were, just living with her brother felt completely normal. She later learned that she did have an Aunt but she could not take them in due to their finical crisis..

However during a brief period of her childhood she did have a 'first love’ or in this case a boy she had meant in her dreams, later on in the future though she was unable to have the dream of the boy and a series of other stranger dreams continued. One of which she remembers being in the snow and diving into a lake with another person there, however she cannot seem to remember more than that.

Later on in the future, around the time she was 14, she had met a boy in a coffee shop during a rain storm, and after a while of talking the two became friends and much later started to date. A few months later after dating however he had broken up with her without explanation other then that he was leaving.

She was heartbroken for the remainder of the year after that. Towards the end of the year her brother had gotten a promotion which had prompted the two to move. While living in her new home she had run into a group of kids who seemed to be looking for their caretaker, deciding to help them she eventually found their caretaker. The caretaker was a kind women named Caren, and after talking the two became pretty good friends.

A year later she had eventually met the caretakers housemate, a cold and stern women named Nina, their relationship was rough around the edges for a while until the two finally were comfortable with each other. At some point Nina had requested Maria’s help with an expo that she was attending in France, agreeing Maria went with her and eventually on their trip the two made a strange discovery.

The two had found a child abandoned in an alley way on their way out of the expo, after taking her to a hospital Maria acted without thinking and had told the doctors that she was her older sister. The two later learned that the child’s name was Amelia and she had amnesia. Unsure of what to do Maria and Nina decide to take Amelia back with them and have her live with Amelia.

After convincing her brother to allow Amelia to live with them, thing with them seemed almost natural and the two seemed like legitimate sisters. A few months later while at Nina and Caren’s house they were both told by Nina that Caren was coming back with a another friend who was going to live with them. And when Caren returned Maria had met Alice Frost, the girl who was going to stay with them.

It has been a year and she is now currently living happily with her brother and adopted sister.

Relationships

’Ar’ Kirkland: Maria’s older brother who she describes as a kind but cranky kind of guy whose terrible at cooking. She’s never actually mentioned his full name to anyone and barely ever sees him since he’s always busy with work.

Marianne Kirkland: Maria’s apparent step aunt who was related to her mother, not by blood, and was living in France up until recently. She was unable to help ‘Ar’ and Maria when they were younger due to the finical struggles that she and her husband were having. She is currently touring Germany with her husband and are able to help ‘Ar’ and Maria now that things have become more stable.

Seth Lincolns: Maria’s ex boyfriend from England. When she first met him she was immediately reminded her ‘first love’ from her dreams that she had as a kid, and had fallen for him. She is unsure how to feel about him now after he had broken up with her since whenever anyone asks her about the relationship she grows quite. However as of recently she had run into him while with Alice and had met the person he had actually gone back for when they broke up. Things with them seem almost tense and awkward, as well as the two always seeming like they're in some form of competition with each other. But she’s glad to know that he’s doing alright….she thinks..??

Caren Kohler: Caren and Maria get along very well, and she understands and respects Caren to a strong degree. Especially after she helped Maria learn how to take care of Amelia. Maria is comforted by Caren’s maternal and caring side, and when she needs advice the two will often meet up together over coffee and talk out whatever she needs.
Nina Thomasson: Their relationship is…complicated. When they first met the two didn’t really get along very well, especially with their strong crashing personalities, it had taken a long time for the two to even be comfortable with each other. Though some times there will be rare moments when the two actually get along like good friends and that Nina will sometimes chuckles at Maria’s jokes. So currently their relationship is at a pretty good standpoint to where the two are okay with being in each others company without words.

Alice Frost: Maria’s best friend that she had met when Alice had fist arrived to Caren and Nina’s home. Their relationship was a bit awkward in the beginning due to Alice’s lack of communication skills with others, as well as their clashing personalties being the ‘quite’ one and the ‘cheerful’ one. But after a few months Maria was able to help Alice open up and branch out with her communication skills. Oddly enough Alice is the only one, other than Seth, to give her a feeling of nostalgia when they first met, prompting Maria to believe that they might of met somewhere before but cannot remember where from. After a year since Alice arrived it is strongly believed that the two are in a secret relationship. She also feels extreme worry for Alice’s ‘condition’ about her family and wants to help her in any way she can.

Amelia ‘Kirkland': Maria’s adopted little sister that she found during her trip to France with Nina. When they first started off Maria had to make up a lie as to why she was in the hospital, that being that Amelia got into a care accident and that she had been staying with Maria’s aunt who lived in France. This information is not entirely wrong however because Maria indeed does have a an Aunt from France. When taking Amelia back to her home to her brother it had taken allot of convincing from Maria to get her brother to allow Amelia to live with them, but he later gave in and allowed her to stay and played along with pretending to be Amelia’s brother. After a long time the two seemed like real blood related sisters, and that Amelia seems to cling more to Maria then ‘Ar.’ Until Maria and Nina can find more information about Amelia’s actually parents, Maria will continue to take care of her and not tell her of the truth.

Other Information

Maria has taken both kickboxing and fencing, both by her brothers recommendation so that she can learn to defend herself. Maria enjoy’s fencing a little more then kickboxing, but finds it equally helpful.

Both she and Alice are most likely in a secret relationship, for what reason is it secret? To hide it from Nina who would most likely kick her ass if she found out.

Other then mainly Amelia, only she, Nina, and Caren know of Alice’s ‘condition’ and have no real way of approaching it for fear of her safety and that it might possibly ‘break' Alice’s mind further then it already is.

Maria was the second oc I ever made, she was created the day after my birthday, and was made to be a Hetalia oc representing ‘Wonderland.’

Her original design consisted of very long and curly brown hair and the trademark dress & apron from Alice in Wonderland, her design has been changed very often till it’s now current redesign.

The Hetalia cameo in her background story is that her ‘older brother’ is Arthur Kirkland(A.K.A- England) from the Hetalia series and she was set up to be related to him. However now this has only been slightly changed and can only be assumed that her brothers is just a human Arthur Kirkland in an alternate universe!

Funny enough Maria was originally shipped with Nina since I thought the (cheerful + serious) shipping type was good, then I later discovered that the Maria + Alice ship (shy + tomboy) was a much better fit and was changed. Though we can have some fun with this and make up and Au that Maria and Nina were briefly in a relationship
