Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area has been hit with what they are calling a "500 year flood", essentially the worst flood we've had for 500 years... These are a couple shots from a few days ago, which I'll follow up with some from yesterday when I get them edited...The sign is definitely not kidding...

This flooding is insane. Makes me (almost) wish for the snow again.

More snow?! That's the first thing that started this. I'm one person who documented (for insurance reasons) the massive build up of snow at my apartment. This flood started way back in November when we got those nasty ice storms (see Winter '07-'08 in my gallery). Since then, we've gotten tons of snow, lots of rain, and people sometimes wonder why we've flooded... The news just mentioned that very fact (Flood starting in November) on Thursday.

yeah, I heard that downtown CR is under 2 feet of water, holy shizzle. And didn't we already have a 500 year flood back in '93, what are the odds?

We've beat '93 by around 10+ feet. CR has crested, and we've gone outside the 500 year flood plain. '93 was only a 100, I think.

Don't quote me on that stuff, but I know that '93 was 19.something feet. We crested at 31.12 feet this year.
