Description
Etude III Impermanence
Gouache, ultramarine, yellow ochre and spectrum red on Ampersand clayboard. 12 x 17cms
In reaction to the last attempt - I went lighter. It's mouldy?
What I learned
This is the weirdest surface to paint on. It doesn't absorb so any paint will wash off completely. Controlling the pigments is counter-intuitive when a wet brush will pick the pigment up instead of laying it down - hence the title.
The ultra smooth surface and extended drying times means that the pigments have time to separate. It was a fun experiment -exploring the unknown with new rules to learn.
