Okay now that the warning is out of the way

The part in HTTYD3 when Grimmel is explaining that Hiccup+Berk couldn't have traveled north, because night furies can't tolerate the cold weather?

Well Berk is already in a really cold place. They get snow a good amount of the year. So that got me thinking. Maybe night furies and light furies aren't the only "fury" dragon species out there. Maybe they're just the two northern-most fury species, and Berk is about as far north as they can survive (hence why they are so rare in that region), and the rest of the fury family of dragons hails from warmer climates.

All of that, combined with the fact that I finally got my leopard gecko settled in after moving across the country and I got to watch her explore her new digs today, well... Leopard gecko dragon

I really hope no one has done this before guys lol.

The leopard fury hails from the hot savannah's of Africa (or whatever Africa's equivalent is in HTTYD.) Their spot pattern helps them to blend in among the dry grass. Like other furies, they are very secretive and rarely seen. They are among the fastest of dragons, so when they ARE seen, they rarely stick around for long.

Males and females are sexually dimorphic. Females are slightly larger than males, but they have smaller head/neck spikes. In the image above, the full-body image displays a male, while the two headshots show females.

Unlike many other dragons, leopard furies don't typically eat fish. Their preferred prey is large antelopes, like elands and kudus, but like most predatory animals, they will eat anything they can catch, including humans.

Their ears are quite long compared to most other fury species, much like a jackrabbit. These long ears help them to release body heat in the hot climate they are native to. It is believed that the white spots on the tops of their ears are to aid in communication and courtship. Like all furies, leopard furies mate for life. They have an average of 2 eggs per clutch, and breed every 4-5 years.

I didn't spend a whole lot of time on this so some of the anatomy might be a bit wonky. Maybe I'll do a more polished version another time

Enjoy!

And side-note, I absolutely do not buy the BS that Grimmel killed EVERY NIGHT FURY single handedly except for Toothless. Night furies are one of the most elusive and intelligent species on the planet. I feel like night furies were already rare around Berk, considering it's the northern-most part of their range, and Grimmel just happened to get most of the ones that happened to be around. I headcanon there's maybe a dozen or so other night furies, very deep in the hidden world (and from what we see in the movie, it's possible Toothless hadn't traveled far enough into the hidden world to find them until he and the light fury move there permanently,) and there's other scattered populations throughout the world, farther south and in much more remote areas than Grimmel could have ever reached. Deep in the Siberian wilderness, perhaps, or the Alps or something. I haven't thought too much about the details, it just really bums me out thinking that Toothless is the last of his kind lol. There's more night furies guys, there's gotta be
