Please tell me if the contrast is too high, my computer screen is on the fritz and I don't trust what Photoshop or dA is showing me.A speedpaint done to relax a bit. Nothing special, though I was having fun playing with my shading. If you have any critique on the lighting in this please let me know!

The contrast is fine in my opinion; personally I feel that it adds to the effect that you're going after. The dragon looks as if it's made out of smoke itself, which I assume is the intended impression.
I just love how it's all faded into the dark background, but at the same time it's able to stand out - the smoke from the nostrils especially.
However, I feel that perhaps you could improve on the mouth-area, where the teeth seem broken-up almost. Perhaps the dragon is old and I'm very wrong, but I feel that it would be better.
Otherwise, a really good painting. Especially for a speedpaint, or something that's "nothing special" according to your description. It's earned a favourite from me, good job!

I worry about the contrast becasue in every program other than Photoshop, pictures show up increadibly dark and with jarring between colours and tones. PS has its own colour management, thankfully. I'm trying to make sure that what I'm making in Photoshop is how others on normal, working screens will see it. C: I'm glad it looks ok!
I agree about the mouth area - given a chance (since complteting it my computer has died) I'll go back and re-do them. I was going for a jaggedy look but some more effort in them would definitely help.
I say nothing special because I had no plan or direction when I started and to be honest it is a really common (I dare say boring) subject matter.

I think it looks awesome, especially with the smoke effect and the texture on the dragon~
I also like the design of the head, makes it look both a bit ancient but still fierce with all those horns. ;O

Thanks very much! I ask about the contrast beause when I view my art online the contrast is high and tones are dark and jarred. It's ok in Photoshop and I wanted to make sure that that is how others are viewing it.
