Clean up, is cleaning up your lines and adding details, if you look at the girl that is a good example. Hope I helped!

Cleaning up is carefully erasing the stuff that doesn't look good, and adding color/more dramatic light/shape, or whatever details it needs to look perfect.
So, to be any more "exactly", you learn to notice what looks good or bad by looking carefully and thinking hard.
Hope this helps...

it's.... not really a tutorial. you just showed us the steps without explaining how you did it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Haley-Hatake In reply to The-Unicorn-Lord [2012-10-02 00:40:40 +0000 UTC]

Considering she has shown us how to use the brushes previously, she assumes we can retain the information so she doesn't repeat herself at every turn.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Unicorn-Lord In reply to Haley-Hatake [2012-10-02 17:23:23 +0000 UTC]

then why bother repeating the steps for the whole thing in the first place?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Haley-Hatake In reply to The-Unicorn-Lord [2012-10-02 20:19:34 +0000 UTC]

I said she didn't repeat the steps.

The artist is showing us what she did to make her painting, and that means she had to repeat a few techniques and doesn't want to jam it down our throats - on this page of the tutorial I think she wanted to show progress and the order in which she painted.

If you read the previous pages you'd know what the techniques entailed and what the brushes were/ where to get them.

The-Unicorn-Lord In reply to Haley-Hatake [2012-10-02 22:16:10 +0000 UTC]

I don't think you quite understood. If she already showed it, why not go stage by stage rather then section by section, like any normal tutorial does? all it does is elongate something that doesn't need to be.

Haley-Hatake In reply to The-Unicorn-Lord [2012-10-03 07:51:11 +0000 UTC]

It's just their style. read the first page then go, if you'd prefer; these pages are nice IMO because I like seeing an artists flow/order as well.

She's not obligated to help people. Be thankful for what she has given; it's not like she owes it to anyone.

I have a question:
Do you use the computer mouse to paint or a sketch thing to the computer? You know the ones who work as a paper, but is conected to the computer...
I think you know what I mean... xD

Beautiflu btw!

darksnowolf In reply to UnicornBlood97 [2012-12-30 17:36:21 +0000 UTC]

She uses a tablet, that's the "a sketch thing to the computer" you speak of. They usually run about in the $200 price range for good new small/medium sized ones. However you can access older models on ebay. I got an intuos 3 small for 90$. for a begining digital artist (i'm mainly traditional) it's worth the buy. Good pressure sensitivity good price. but it doesn't make up for artistic talent i promise you that. and the process still takes hours (i'm working on a piece so far that's taken me 26 hours, about three days of 6-8 hr work (i'm on school break). best of luck.

Hey, anybody reading this or you, when you finish painting the wings and colors, do you erase the line art/sketch or do you paint on top of it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyLunia In reply to el-iris [2012-02-02 08:34:15 +0000 UTC]

i guess she paints on top of it. because in part 2 you can see in the layer order that she has merged the sketch and the multiyply layers to one background. then she paints the refining on a new "normal" layer above.

Can I just, ya know, say something?
D: DAMMIT!
THANK YOU!!!!! SERIOUSLY. LOWER CASE LETTERS FAIL TO EXPRESS THE VOICE WHICH I SAY THIS WITH. Dear god, I've been looking for a tutorial that dumbs this technique down for two years.

Now, if there's some idiot-proof tutorial out there on why to pic colors in the first place and base colors changing/altering when different colored light sources come into play, I might actually progress.

Thanks again. You have -NO- idea how helpful this is.

Oh wait, how (this is obvious, FYI) do you make it all look so... clean? O__O The colors fit flawlessly so you don't notice the blue to the green. What is your not-so-secret secret?

I noticed that in the last screenshot, you have a layer named hue/saturation 1; what is that for? Are you, erm how to say, like, duplicating your image in a new layer for color tweaks?

If you are, do you know of adjustment layers?
I don't mean to sound patronizing if you do, I'm just self taught in PS and assume everyone else is, and I wouldn't know about them if someone else hadn't told me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheVibe0TT In reply to Suguro [2010-04-16 06:37:45 +0000 UTC]

When you use an Adjustment Layer and collapse it down onto the layer below it, Photoshop automatically renames that layer as whatever Adjustment Layer was used.

This is most likely what happened here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Suguro In reply to TheVibe0TT [2010-04-16 15:20:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, that would make sense, except why are there 3 layers that seem to be of the completed image?

I think Im just analyzing this way too hard haha
