Hi all.

This is my latest work. It is a actual 3D object, a bit post-pro for better colours etc, but it is just one render, not two renders combined or so. It is modelled and rendered with Blender 2.41 and post-processed with Photoshop. It is based on the litho Up and Down by M.C. Escher. C&C is highly appreciated.

My most recent work has given me pause in my journal. You don't need to necessarily worry yourself over my personal trivialities, but when I favorited the piece the page prompted me for a comment which might explain why I'd do such a thing.

I'm a huge fan of MC Escher's, his keyword being what brought me to your piece. Like I was saying before about my piece, I've broken it down for myself in my journal, which as you know is on one side of the page when I look at my profile. I wanted to make the other side nice to look at while considering the thoughts I had gathered on my own work; sort of choosing the hotel room I would be staying in if this were real life. I wanted a hotel room, since that's the focus of the piece itself, and something about Escher prompted me to look for his work.

As it turns out, you're the most cheerful of all the renditions this site has to offer in his name. I was so pleased when I found it, and I can't wait to consider my work adjacent to this monolithic achievement of yours.

I didn't mean to bore you with all this talk of myself, nor did I mean to detract from the awesome work you have done here. It truly is monumental. Thanks.

Have a nice day.

SanderWit In reply to YoungLink19 [2008-10-23 07:10:22 +0000 UTC]

tx but im not really sure if its technically true : it's rendered from blender with the panorama function on (camera on the side: vertical pan is not available) witch renders lots and lots of slices of the image while rotating the camera resulting in the panorama. Pretty much in the same way as you'd normally make a panorama; with multiple photo's. Only this uses hundreds of thin slices of 'hoto' to keep the error level minimal.

all the best

It's still amazing. You didn't use 2 images and put them together with some 2D imaging software!

i dislike internet discussions, they always seem to evolve into pointless eye-scratch-sessions

therefor ill just mention im glad ye like my work, although ye must realize the dutch artist m.c. escher is the original creator of this peace, as a b/w lithograph. he's the one creating this nice surreal effect on this foreign square. an utter mind fuck like some guys find it, or a nice surreal effect; escher is a great artist who has done some stunning peaces in his time
