Beautiful technique around the rose (which some have said looks 3D but to me looks swollen, as it either was recently tattooed or branded into Β the skin, like a welt), eyes (welling with tears was a emotionally brutal nice touch) and hand (just wondering the fingernails are meant to be just that or petals, as it would tie in thematically with her fragile state). This might sound a bit odd, but this work reminds me of a comic book character called Dawn, who was ascribed as goddess of birth & rebirth as well as goddess of witches (in that continuity, witches cried only from their left eye, so to visually represent that, she has three bloody teardrops always underneath her left eye). It's heavily implied that her origin began as the Virgin Mary, but it was never canonically stated. She also had an item wrapped around each wrist to act as visual reminders or her neutral state. One was a blooming rose which represented Hell as although beautiful, anyone who touched it would be pained by it's thorns, whereas the other item was a chain which representedΒ Heaven as one individual can only go so far before they eventually have to deal with limits, so you could see where that comparison with the portrait above might lie.

All those roses are really gorgeous and this is going to make me sound like a sick psycho bastard, but the bruising almost makes her prettier. It adds a whole new dimension and a story to the picture. Stunning-Β
