I think you did fantastic! Skulls can be pretty tricky mostly because of how it's shaped. I like the wax-effect you gave the skull and you really defined the details to the character.
Here; I'll write a little critique to try to help you out from my boyfriend and my opinion looking at the image. I'm not a master of Digital art, but I can at least help with what I know.
I'm going to start with the character.
Character: Since this character has light sources, the light should be affecting areas on the body of the character. There's no signs other than the glow around the light itself. Shadows should also be affected by the character and be more defined and deepned also and since it's a night image, shadows would be more dominant. The drawing is fantastic and I love the pose. But I feel that the shadows, and lights need to be more defined to make the character really have more oomph instead of the cardboard cutout look.
Background: Backgrounds are tricky as hell. Now with how the background curves with its hill and the character is very stiff and straight, it looks like the character is going to walk into the grassy patch in the front foremost of the picture. How the tree's are drawn it looks like they're very close and has grass for feet.
What I've learned overall with an image is to use a transparent layer to color over the entirety of the image as an overlay so the character looks like it's placed and is a part of it and not sticking out like a sore thumb, looking like they shouldn't be part of the picture. Night time images are really hard, especially with many light sources like the little balls of light. But overall the image is great. It's not bad. It just needs more depth. Next time I work on a digital art and you're on, I can sit with you and show you what I know about backgrounds ;v;

thank you!
that did give me a lot of insight!
I have a lot of trouble making my characters flexible, they always come out looking to stiff,
but I have to admit, the light was a bit rushed, I normally would take that into account,
although not as much as you pointed out,
so I shall be practicing and looking up good light source refs X3

Oh my gosh i'm so happy it helped a little ;v; What I do is I go outside and people watch. I always keep a little sketchpad with me. We have a dog so I use her for reference and draw her often. My boyfriend also does poses for me and I usually put a webcam on and make faces into it to try to get a grasp of different angles and facial expressions.
Awesome! The best ref's are outside! I learned by going outside with a canvas and a paintbrush and just painting from what I could see. But, everyone learns differently so that's really all the advice I can give. I can't wait to see what beautiful images you come out with next!
