This is very different from others interpertaion of death, to me in a way it is a very elegant looking death. I love the design on his cloak it is out of the normal pure black cloak with hood element. The pattern gives him a little bit of personality. This almost seems like it belongs in a storybook becuase it probaly does have a pretty unqie story behind it. I love this peice and well done!

I am glad you noticed the difrence, however this is heavily inspired by the death of mister Klimt. I may show you the picture if you wish.

The tones and pattern had to be done in special order and way, couse it depends form the etching technique. Its a bit hard to explain.

It actually does have story. I may tell if you want. However its really just short.

This one is my favorite of your etchings - the method itself looks like it requires a lot of control, but I already know you have excellent command of your media. It's very ironic that I'm saying it here, but this image (like all your work) has such life in it. You don't just render figures; you tell stories.

I am SO glad! STORY! I hope that will see even my professor when I present it in august...

I like the way the spirals in the background mimic the scythe ^-^

The do symbolise actually something, unfolding life, which can be cut away any moment.

Uh...nice Death, nice, "boy"...XD
Beautiful...and creepy...I remeber some of your "childhood-pictures"...reminds me those ones....X_X
Plus the style, composition and mainly the pattern of his clothes reminds me Klimt. But maybe it's just me...^^
I love the guy!

I was going out from Klimt, so it is great it is seen. Whole bachelor work was themed in Schiele and Klimt, so thats why.

I like 'Death' in here. It's something different from al the normal skeletons with capes you can find everywhere. What give you this idea? Or did you really came up with it without help? (Both ways are fine.) Only... the background. It's a little vague, I mean, I can't see what you were trying to draw. Or did you left it like that on purpose?
I should not make excuses for giving critique, but I never went to any art academy, art class, or something like that. You should not take my critics very serious, since I've not learnt to give them.

Oh, this is great. I decided not to write more to description, since I didnΒ΄t bother very much and told myself I will answer if someone asks anything. Glad you did so.

Dead is belonging to series with the piece "Life". So actually they have alot common together. It is the same person and shows difrent atributes (objects or symbols representing something). My whole bachelor work was going from 2 artists: Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele.
The ornamental symbols in life point on Klimts way of picturing the background, however in Death you see some "weird" BG.

Point was so picture Death as endproduct, where all action and pretty colors and decorative stuff disapears and nothing stays. Just naked, used out, aged death. She shows you her white hair on open gesture, presenting her simpleness. Like, look, I have nothing and you will look like this too.
The Background would be too empty if it would be just plain black and it would be also very heavy and thick. So the scratches are making sort of "noise" to lighten up the composition and point a bit on earth, like dirt.
The circle is variation of holy glory which you get to see on saints, like pointing out death is something unvoidable, maybe like a gods judgement.
The circle is also atribut for her power, making her a crown, showing her as ruler, queen, since she is now in charge.

I hope it was a bit usefull and explained more. If you want to ask anything in future go ahead so, I will be glad.
And I dont put "critique desired" since noone gives one and not to insult anyone, most of people doesnt understand this composition and color and thought behind it, so it is useless.

Critique is good, when it is intopic and constructive. I dont like flame, thats all.

Ah, my bad, I mistook this with another picture, so please dont wonder about this answer.

Isa-WP In reply to saniika [2008-07-03 10:30:42 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry, I saw the other pictures and understood almost immediatly which picture you meant. And I understand your comment, thank you!
I know my critique is bad, but it's not very good either. Like I mentioned, I've never learned to look at art as a (semi)proffesional.

I didnt say a word about your critique beeing bad. You are asking, but before you are thinking about what you are gonna ask, that is good.
