I once wrote a short story about a girl who had always sculpted birds, and who had always been very unhappy. One day --she was already an adult-- she came to her brother's house, demanded some clay and without further explanation started making a baby sparrow. Her brother didn't know what to think, because the bird was full of some disturbing, desperate energy, and because the girl had never sculpted either hatchlings or sparrows. Then she put the sculpture into the oven and when she took it out it turned out that it had been cracked to pieces. But she didn't seem in the least worried about the fact. In fact, she looked quite composed, with a tiny hint of triumphant. Her brother asked her what the sparrow was. "Me," she answered.
I believe her sparrow must have looked similar to your Birdy here.
