I was looking for something from you for the group's Fav's.
Among several possibilities I settled on this one bacause to me it exemplifies your primary motif: 'looking at our everyday world from a fresh perspective'.

It's also become personally favable as I have been sitting here .. so she comes back to hang on my own gallery's wall as well.

Sweet craft!

If it wasn't for the eyes and the nails, I'd assume this was a photograph.
Then again, most high detailed games still have the very same issue. So yeah, skills.

Then again, you could, quite possibly work on the nails, that's about the only critique I can provide you with.
I remember reading that you wondered why people critiqued your older work rather than the newer.

I got an answer, your most recent work is almost flawless, the older work is flawed.
Thus, by picking an easier target, the critique is easier to do, although pointless.

What's wrong with the eyes? 0.o I probably would have gone for the hair before I did the eyes... And honestly... I never would have even noticed the nails unless if it hadn't have been for me reading what you wrote.

NuclearD00d In reply to StrangleyMe [2012-05-12 13:32:51 +0000 UTC]

The sharp and extremely white color gives the eyes a plastic feel.
Eyes are essentially a mass of a very thick liquid with veins and sensors keeping it working.

The center is a pupil with a hole which draws in light.
The outer layer is a thin transparent layer that is always wet, if it isn't, we'll go blind.

Technically this would raise the size of the model, but judging from the quality, he doesn't look like he's holding back.
So, yeah, why the hell not? Go all out. Personally, I'm just observing from an amateurs viewpoint.

They are just too damn bright white. XD

Ahhh. I see what you mean now..... I guess I didn't really look too close.... The way I was taught to do it, actually fixes all that you were talking about... Just add a clear reflective Sphere* around it and then pull the pupil back into the eyeball.....

And I'll be totally honest.... You lost me with the part about raising the size.... I have no idea what you are talking about... >.<

And yeah... They are... XP

Well, idonno, I'm a rookie. The only gift I use is my analytical abilities.
A hybridization between your method and this guys would be ideal.

Your model has taken care of the eye white problem,
although the center of the eyes are blurred as well, perhaps a little too much.

Oh and the upper part of the eyes would have shadows from the eye lashes, I think.

StrangleyMe In reply to NuclearD00d [2012-05-16 02:52:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I didn't really add eyelashes in mine... That's just a picture texture... Heh heh.
And no worries. I'm a rookie too.
And I don't exactly know what method he used... Do you?

SaphireNishi In reply to NuclearD00d [2012-05-10 21:06:35 +0000 UTC]

well people make the common mistake when they are trying to give a critiques.. like you say, giving a critique on an old pic doesnt help cause most people are evolving in there work so you need to critique their new work, so giving critique on an old picture is definitely pointless.. the other thing i see a lot is that people are stating the obvious.. which doesnt really seem practical either.. i think most people (i know i do) know exactly what is wrong with their pics and what they need to work on to get better.. for example my biggest problem is hair now.. i know its bad and i know there are ways to make it look nicer but i dont know how.. i get a lot of comment from people telling me that the hair is not that good but i like i said i know that already.. what i think would be a good way to give critiques is tell how to improve on the things you are giving critiques on.. thats the only way a critique makes sense to me.. otherwise its just an other pointless comment...

NuclearD00d In reply to SaphireNishi [2012-05-12 13:37:52 +0000 UTC]

Personally, I find the hair acceptable. It kinda looks like she once had thick curly hair, that then was somewhat flattened using one of those hair product flattening thingies. I pointed out what I meant by the eyes in the comment above, as for the nails, it's just me being picky. Like the air, it's the level of brightness it has. With makeup or no makeup, the area just under the thumb should be darker.

SaphireNishi In reply to NuclearD00d [2012-05-12 16:10:26 +0000 UTC]

well this is what i mean with stating the obvious i know what a nail should look like.. but the problem is getting that result.. a nail has basically 3 parts.. that upper part which has no skin underneath it which is actually not that hard to create.. but the problem comes with the other 2 parts.. a nail is translucent so what you see is actually part of your skin under the nail and nail itself.. now the problem is getting that effect to work in 3d which i havent really figure out yet.. so the problem is not that i dont know how it should look like.. but getting that result with 3d materials and texture...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NuclearD00d In reply to SaphireNishi [2012-05-12 21:54:23 +0000 UTC]

I know that it's translucent. I merely suggested to paint a texture beneath the nail and then make the translucent bit make up for it.
If that works, that is. I'd recommend giving the eyes a little darker tint and giving it a few irregularities, nothing major though.

That would at least nullify the plastic feel that it currently holds. Oh and I'd suggest to somewhow add a thin watery layer over the eyes. Enough to make them appear a tad watery, however you do that is up to you. When or if you pull this off, you should upload a photo and a 3D version of that photo and ask people if it's hard to tell the difference.

That would be fun. Captain Obvious over and out. Good luck.

well i always though it was weird that people were giving feedback on very old pics.. i think it makes a lot more sense and it helps a lot more if people give feedback on recent pics.. but thats just my opinion...
anyways, thanks a lot for the compliments..!!!

SaphireNishi In reply to mistermojo28 [2012-04-16 19:23:15 +0000 UTC]

its not a stupid question.. and no, i didnt.. i use the victoria4 as base model.. so the rigging is all done for poser and daz.. in my case im using poser.. altho the rigging of the victoria4 model isnt really great.. so i need to fix up a lot of problems on the mesh in zbrush.. the textures are all mine...

very glad you like it and thank you for the comment...
