Makes me think of the Pole Star - as it looks like it stays in one place in the night sky, the ancient Finns called it the Nail of the Sky because they thought it was a nail that held the spinning dome of the sky in place. Also, the great world tree, the Oak, from the creation myth. The tension between the polarities is well focused - the roots and branches, a tenuous hold of the crumbling, decaying earth and the lit sky spinning overhead. And there's the Ouroboros, eating itself in an endless cycle... Very effective, good work!
