I had this idea. If Flame Shield is from another country, then shouldn't he be at least different race than ponies in Equestria? Yes, he should, even Saddle Arabia, lying so close to Equestria is inhabited by different race ponies. Then what race is Flame? Cat-eye! Yeah, I really called them like that. They're not half ponies half cats, just have cat pupils and fluffy chests.

Cat-eyes live on the Vast Island over the Celestial Sea. Their country isn't very rich, that's why often young ponies cross the sea to live in better developed and richer Equestria. Although, after building their own weather factory and improving in magical medicine and education the number of emigrants has dropped significantly, and it's almost impossible to meet the purebred cat-eye in times the events of MLP are taking place.

On the drawing you can find most of the information about their appearance, I'll just add that cat-eyes most often have those colors on them: black, gray, red, brown, orange, yellow, pink. The rarest colors are purple, blue and green.

Aslo, they can communicate a little bit with cats. Of course, Fluttershy's abilities are much stronger, cat-eyes can only understand single "words". But they can learn to understand more and talk with cats, it takes time though.
