Description Full-view please!

A portrait of one of the many ladybirds that seem to infest my bedroom all year round. (I realise there are much worse things to be infested with... but it's gone on for a few years now and I'm not even sure what they're surviving on, I get them even throughout the winter!)

This is the first drawing I've uploaded on here, hope you like it!

I'm not brilliant with paint... I don't tend to find I have much control with it, but I wanted to add a bit of colour and I don't like the finish of coloured pencils, so I've had a go with some watercolours for this one. This is probably only the 4th watercolour I've ever done "properly" (aka with some specific intention in mind), so all things considered I'm fairly pleased with it.

Oh, and if anyone's got any better ideas for the title, help would be much appreciated! (I realise "Ladybird on a Pencil" isn't terribly interesting)

Cute ladybird!
Did you use the pencil with ladybids or an other one?
(i like the details on the head of the ladybird - the most people forget them...)

How interesting to find that they have a different name in England. We call them ladybugs. Well done, especially for not using watercolors much. How about a title,"Walking the Plank"? Or "Where the Sidewalk Ends"?

I must admit I've always found that one a bit weird!

Although I think "ladybug" makes a lot more sense than "ladybird"... but there you go. I wonder how they ended up with the bird part on there name?

No telling. I heard that "butterfly" started out as "flutterby", which actually makes more sense.

I think it's perfect the way it is. Watercolors was the way to go. The ladybug is very well done. I like the title the way it is also. Simple titles are good.
In answer to your question about them living in your bedroom. Ladybugs "hibernate" through the winter in places like window cracks. I don't think they actually eat at that time. When they are young before they turn into a ladybug the eat tons of aphids, that is why gardeners love them so.
I think you should spend more time on watercolors and see what happens, smiles.

Thanks for the compliment, and shedding some light on why they are where they are.

I think I worked out what they have been eating too (I was getting baby ones aswell)... we've got a bit of a problem with carpet beetles in out house and I'm pretty sure they were munching on the larvae (woolly-bears). I don't seem to have the ladybirds this year, but unfortunatly I've got a lot more carpet-beetles than normal! It's just thankful we don't really have many carpets, so the woolly bears end up eating accumulated bird dust in corners etc (I have a pet cockatiel... and they shed so much dust it's ridiculous).

i love this painting... i dont see any obvious mistakes that could have been made with the paints. but i feel the same way about them... have u ever tried watercolor pencils? i <3 those things... u have all the control of paint cept in pencil form

I do have some watercolour pencils, which I've been known to use colour small designs (like I used to do a lot of card-making and I'd use them to colour stamped designs etc).

The only thing I don't like with is that I find it harder to control the colours and shades, and also if you want to get a strong colour saturation it takes a whole whole lot longer. (I'm slightly lacking on the attention span front )

I really appreciate the suggestion though.

That is reeeeeally good, especially considering you're fairly new to watercolours. Well done I particularly love the shading and detail on the actual ladybird
