I see this and i think to myself "Tomb of Giants, that wouldve been a great place to have a torch. I mean yeah I have cast light, but its not the same."

cast light was actually the better alternative. I had to use the weird head-lantern and sacrifice my dear shield for it.

That is an extremely dark area, is ti that bad in the game??

pretty much. There are some areas that are pretty much pitch black without a torch.
DS1 had an area like that as well though (perhaps even worse).
(I'm also incredibly lazy with backgrounds, so there's that)

Oh my, I'm a brightness junkie who likes to up the brightness of the game for dark environments so I don't have to get lights and items xD
Not sure if my method will work in darksouls :/

In DS2 it works pretty well for the most part, though I eventually got fed up with it and just lit all the scones in the area.
Dark Souls 1 on the other hand has an area that doesn't let you do that.

There's nothing really. A nod or reference to the first game here and there, but not much more.
That said, Dark Souls 1 is the superior game for me (even if the PC port is an arse to get running).
Both are definitly good games though.
