The fetus is other body inside the mother's body. The Church is right. Always is right. The Church cares you. Always.

I only support abortion when the mother's a rape victim, a minor or her life's in danger, otherwise it should be a crime.

A tree does more than a fetus
If we kill so many trees why can't we sacrifice a life.

So specious. If abortion was about the "rights" of the woman, rather than the life of the human being, this might just have some merit.Β

SaritysAnimation In reply to GamziMakr [2013-12-13 04:14:00 +0000 UTC]
Then why do you suppose abortion is such a controversial issue?

"...unless it's out of the woman's body."
Didn't you just discredit my piece on the basis that this has nothing to do with abortion?
π: 0 β©: 1
SaritysAnimation In reply to GamziMakr [2013-12-14 02:22:26 +0000 UTC]
Then it sounds like disregard for the child isn't actually the source of controversy as you characterized if in fact it's advocated for after leaving a woman's body. That would make absolutely no sense, unless of course there was a conflict of interests that ended upon birth.
It's absolutely absurd to deny the involvement women's rights in the abortion debate. It is a person's guaranteed right to bodily autonomy that keeps abortion legal. This must necessarily be limited or eliminated in order to enforce the rights of the unborn, so I should think representing the perspective of a woman's ability to determine matters regarding her body is perfectly valid.
And believe it or not, I meant to address several issues in this image. Freedom over sex, contraception, marriage, and modesty (matters over which religious fundamentalists desire control) are encompassed just as much.

Man, I've been debating with idiots so long I've become accustomed to it. I might actually have to think in this conversation. *dramatic sigh*
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. I was making two points: one, that abortion isn't about the "rights" of the mother (I meant juxtaposed to things like the lives of the unborn, but didn't say so), and two, that one of my big problems with some abortionists is that they're okay with abortion when the offspring can't exactly "feel" the pain of it's life being taken, or being aware of it, and that even worse that some people are for late-term abortions, who feel that abortion is totally fine with the baby is in the body, but suddenly you're a flagitious child murderer if you kill the baby once it's OUTSIDE of the body. These were the points I made. Take them from the top?Β
Like I said before, this is more about the rights of the unborn offspring than the "rights" of a woman to "do whatever she wants". Until you can at least grasp this concept on a peer-to-peer level, I can't really say much else. I find much more worth in human life than in a woman's decision to end said life for the most inane of reasons.Β
Okay then, let's boogie:Β
"freedom over sex"
What does that even mean? I don't see any Catholic priests tearing two lesbians apart. I don't see any religions in America banning fornication. See, religion has nowhere near as much power as government has.Β
"contraception"
Oh boy. Those big mean Catholics! Shame on them for not wanting their tax money given to women to kill the baby inside of them! How dare they! What, are they against abortion or something? Oh wait, they are? Ah, who cares about their deepest convictions. As long as I get my birth control for free. Β
"marriage"
You didn't do a good job of incorporating this, if you're referring to same sex marriage. There's nothing indicating the woman in the picture desires a same sex marriage. If you're trying to say that somehow Christians stop women from getting married, then I don't know what to tell you.Β
"modesty"
Again, how are Christians "stopping" women from wearing slutty clothing in public? By speaking out against it? Ridiculous.Β

I'm sorry but you've mistaken my expansion on the intent behind the image as an invitation for a lengthy tired debate. Been there done that one hundred times too many, no thanks.Β
I am compelled to respond to your assertion that abortion does not concern women's rights because it is a very bizarre denial I have not yet heard. It shouldn't be a mystery as to why it was fought for and won by the Women's Liberation movement of the 1970's. Pregnancy and abortion are extremely determinative for women. Whether a fetus has a right to remain in her body is only contested by her right to bodily sovereignty, an individual liberty without which she is reduced to a container for the fetus. I am not making a case for abortion in explaining this (nor am I interested in engaging that discussion for the 327,918th time), I am simply pointing out what is so obvious it shouldn't need to be said. Women's rights are affected by abortion, hence women's rights issue.

Yes, I was wondering why you were getting into it, especially since your artist comments were so minute. Oh well.Β
As soon as you can accept that the fetus (Latin for "offspring") is a human being of infinite worth and just some object a woman can choose to keep or "get rid of" at her leisure, you and I can find some common ground. There might be a component of women's rights somewhere along the lines, but the fact is they're nothing compared to human life. Not much else I can tell you.Β

Very powerful piece. I'm a Christian, but I'm also a woman. I don't agree with the authority the Catholic Church apparently thinks they have over our bodies. Not all Christians are like that, but its getting harder and harder for me to argue that, lol.

how sad/terrible/immoral/moral/horrible/good or bad... an abortion is.
