Description Fingon is one of my favorite characters in the Silmarillion and my eternal inspiration.

I'm always depressed when I think about the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, poor Fingon.

I know the armor is off and all that, background is barely there...but heh, that's the way it is.

I used this stock for reference [link]

hohoho, you're making me blush!

It makes me very happy. I had this scene in my head for some time, because not only it's one of the major events in the book, but because of my love for the character.

Well I have not read the Silmarillion yet, but there's so many pictures about the stories that I've seen, it seems to me like I'd already know it^^
I will read it after I finished my recent Tolkien book.
What I actually wanted to say is: I can feel the sad and heroic emotion of this pic and character, although I haven't read the book. And to create that is really really hard. Now you can blush^^

The Silmarillion is probably my favorite book. One just has to get through the boring beginning. But the story itself is truly beautiful and the characters are awesome. What are you reading now?

Sad and heroic...now you've summed up the whole of the Silmarillion

Thank you ^^

Reading the classic^^ Lord of the rings. But I'm always interrupted by boring school books we have to read in German and Englisch (although Macbeth is quite good..also sad and heroic^^). Have you read others of Tolkien, too? Like History of Middle Earth or Children of HΓΊrin?

I have read the Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, The Unfinished Tales, and some parts of the History of Middle Earth /I have 5 random volumes, including both of the Books of Lost Tales. I haven't read the Hobbit (too little elves, but I will read it, one day and I haven't read the Children of HΓΊrin, because I just don't like HΓΊrin's children and I felt there was enough of them in the Silmarillion

LotR was the first of Tolkien's books I've read, some 10 years ago. Where are you in the book now?

I truly love the world of Middle Earth ^^.

I'm not that far yet, I kind of want to read it all at a time(cause then i also can read the other Toplkien books^^) but on the other hand I don't want to read further, because someday it will be finished...I don't want that to happen because I love it!!

I will read the Hobbit before the movie(that I'm definately going to watch(elves in 3D, as well)!!) but Hobbits are not my favourite characters. I prefer the elves as well^^
I watched the movies 10 times in german, then 1 time in english and realized it was way better(why do they always choose so weird synchron speakers that sound completely different?) so I watched that 10 times and pretty much every fan made elf "movie" on youtube and then I started searching on DeviantArt for more elves than just Lotr and now I'm a real fan that has not even read so many books(kind of the opposite, I know^^)

well even if you read all the books, you can always return to them. I reread the Silmarillion every year, well parts of it anyways (some parts are just too sad/depressing to read again). I was planning to read the Hobbit book before the movie comes out as well. I'm looking forward to it. There are still some elves in there. But the Silmarillion is awesome, because it's mostly just elves, with the odd human thrown into the mix from time to time. I can't count how many times I've seen the LotR movies, I know them by heart. I've never watched it dubbed into my language, because I know I would have to cringe listening to that. The first time I've seen the Fellowship, it was in a cinema, with subtitles. Did you watch the extended dvds?

Elves rule!

Elves Do definetely ruel

Was too young to see them in cinema Didn't knwo what they were about yet, when they came out(yep, I'm regretting)
I know almost(only almost) all the lines by heart, and I'm always annoying people around me cause I'm quoting them whenever it fits.
Definately going to read Silmarillion afterwards!
Tolkien is really counterproductive in my preparing for the finals...
What should I read? Maths or Tolkien, Maths or Tolkien....Tolkien...TOLKIEN!!

Yes, I've seen the extended version from the beginng on. I once watched the cut version and really was like wtf....I know there is a scene...Why is it missing?? There were elves in this scene, nooo!

You know the "song" "they're taking the hobbits to Isengard"? [link]
At first time you're literally like wtf did I just watch? But after I don't know 10 times or such you just HAVE to laugh. From now to Every time you watch it again!
Wow, makes one crazy after sometime, but no matter how often I watch it, I always end up on the floor laughing.
I always sing that in my school with my friends (Tolkien fans, too, but not so much as I am, so they liked it. Thats it)
The one friend is Gollum, the other ones Celeborn, I'm the background music and we all together sing Legolas' part.
It makes you happy after every bad maths test

Heh, I feel old now I cannot watch the movies without saying the lines along with the characters!

Well yeah, I should be writing my thesis and I'm drawing elf pictures, so in my case, it's not really counterproductive, just productive in a different way

I feel the cinema versions of the movies are missing a lot. The extended dvds are great. Once me and a friend did a LotR marathon, watching all the dvds in one go. It was amazing, but damn, so long

The song is crazy, but really funny!

My sister got to view lotr with live orchestra some time ago. Damn, I was jealous!!
I'm just saying the lines along whenever elvish is coming up, don't want to annoy my frinds too much^^
I started an elf picture some time ago, but there's just so much coming in my way, I can't finish it Maybe in the easter holidays.

There's a 10hours version of that song. After a loooong sunday afternoon you can't stop smiling and have a weird and crazy laugh while running around your chair rolling with your eyes^^

I've drawn a lot of elves (I'm not very good at drawing manly men, so elves suit me just fine). The elf in this picture is one that I draw quite often. Really a great character.
I understand, I wish I had more time for drawing as well. I've looked through your gallery, you have great stuff there, I hope you draw the elf soon then
I haven't drawn with a pencil for ages, since I've bought the tablet, I use it all the time.

I've seen a link to the 10 hour version on youtube, I wonder if one does go crazy after listening to that for that amount of time, hahah I know I would!

(Going to sleep now, will be read for reply in the morning )

Thank you! It is terribly sad, yes. The whole battle...Fingon's death...Whenever I reread the Silm I usually cannot read the whole book, it's just too depressing.

The Nirnaeth Arnoediad and the Narn are two that always make me cry, even still after so long.

for me, it starts with Mandos' prophecy...when you know what's going to happen it just makes me so depressed, especially the "to evil ends shall all things turn that that begin well...". It is just so hopeless and tragic. And what the circumstances made of the characters, especially Maglor and Maedhros - two, in my opinion, very decent, good-hearted guys suffering the consequences of their oath till the bitter end. It always seemed to me that after Nirnaeth, after Fingon's death, Maedhros changed a lot. When I imagine how Fingon must have felt, waiting for Maedhros' army to arrive...gah, I don't want to think about it. Better to concentrate on the love and slash and....oh you know
