Well, I came to the bassoon from the trumpet. Imagine that!
And the pillow case was one made by grandma from a local fabric store's fabric.

It actually is scored in four parts on a grand staff, so no, not really.

Yup. All of those keys were scary at first, but, for the most part, those keys are used for the lower and upper range. That is aside from flicking, in which you "flick" a key at the start of a note to keep it form cracking and help it sound right. (Hopefully that was a good enough explanation!)

Really? That's cool. It's a fun instrument, but a little frustrating sometimes. It's worth it, though. To me, anyway!
I figure that since you are going to play it, I must also note that the right-most key is called the "whisper key" and it actually is used a lot, but it's not as complicated as the rest. I'm sure you'll learn this better when you start the instrument, though. Good luck!

One person I met at an honor band try-out let me see her bassoon and explained some of the keys. Thanks for that little tidbit though! ^____^
