If I remember correctly I believe my first drawing for this painting was done in the later part of 2008 to early 2009. I'd actually made a first attempt at painting it when my computer had contracted a horrible virus that ate the first version.In a way it's a good thing it did, even though I didn't start up the painting again for some time, I enjoy this version a lot more.
Initially I really wanted to push some limits with this piece with composition, texture, color and light and give it an almost photographic feel, like one would be walking along the forest and snap a fleeting picture of these little guys sneaking out to sun themselves.
There's still a few elements I'm not too happy with but I'm likely being a little picky. Perfectionism is a blessed curse.

That's really really cool! I love the colors and the lights very much! The structure of the wood looks simply amazing, but most I like the moss on the trees!
Also the dragons heads and scales are more then well done and the wings looks really... real!

I think a few complementary colours injected to this would really make it pop. Everything is sharp and smooth, but the overpowering yellow-green wash flattens it a bit.

This is amazingly done, I love everything about this picture. The details of the dragons are so well done from their scales, horns, spines, and tails. Even the intricate series of veins in their wings are nicely done. I love the jungle background with all its textures as well and the lighting brings it all together. As for the photographic feel, well it's damn near close to it. This is one of those pictures where I really have to thank the artist for making it, so Thank You. Love it and instant fav.

i think you definitely succeeded on the photographicness of it. though if its meant to be from the point of view of someone walking through the forest the angle seems a bit strange. but very cool nonetheless

Beautiful all the way down to their scales. It's wonderful that you had even made their wing membranes translucent due to the fact that they are small, little flyers. But the details on the moss and plants growing on that tree (or is it an undergrowth
