It's an anime allegory for the cycle of suffering in Buddhist beliefs. Also a bit of Shinto animal symbolism, so wolves=gods. ( Also in Japanese kami=god, okami=wolf.)

But it never tells you that. It doesn't tell you a lot of things. It expects you to watch really hard at least two or three times and go over it with a fine toothed comb.

Thanks! the storyline sounds kinda crazy but it's really good!
one of my watchers recommended it to me and you can find the episodes on youtube.
Basically it's a future where wolves are believed extinct, but are really under a glamour that makes them look human. The main characters are searching for paradise. It's alot more futuristic and sci-fi then i'm making it sound though
