Not Harpie? (You know, half women, half birds). A siren is supposed to be half women, half fish (or just a woman who lives underwater)
Anyway, your stuff is aaaaaaaaaamazing

Hergman In reply to Heri-Shinato [2014-02-06 01:15:42 +0000 UTC]

harpies and sirens are both creatures of popular culture and imagination. the original tale of odysseus described sirens as what we know today as harpies.
the name just moved to mean another kind of creature.

heck ive heard that harpies as shown here already existed in the greek tales. just not the odysseus one.

some myths suggested sirens actually save seamen by singing about nearby rocks, most of the time seamen were too distracted by their beauty to avoid the danger

Beutiful work! But... Hum... Those are harpies (single, harpy). Sirens are more like half woman-half fish (mermaid).

sQuaggle In reply to OsmarNogueira [2012-06-16 12:19:39 +0000 UTC]

Actually the first version of Sirens were half woman-half bird too, like in Odyssey.

The picture is great!
I love their color scheme and their claws and wings!

isn't the opposite?i mean normal harms and the bottom as a bird?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Scebiqu In reply to Nenril-Tf [2012-02-04 10:44:57 +0000 UTC]

There are a lot different interpretations. Some are just Birds with a human head and some have just bird legs and wings on their back, right.

Very cool. Really enjoying your paintings and especially the eerie color scheme in this. Only thing is that, apart from their wings, the poses of the father two are relatively similar. Regardless, they look dramatic

Leicht vertan was?

Das sind Harpien und keine Sirenen

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Scebiqu In reply to Aerozopher [2010-11-26 07:44:43 +0000 UTC]

Aerozopher In reply to Scebiqu [2010-11-26 10:07:33 +0000 UTC]

Its sad they are so unknown. I was really impressed at the statues of sirens I saw in Greece :_)
