Thank you.
Depends on what I'm painting.
But recently I use 2500x3000px.

what version of gimp do you use?

Scheherazade2c In reply to LafflyAdopts [2012-11-25 19:15:19 +0000 UTC]

At that time I think I used 2.6. There was no 2.8 version then.

Because you have to install GPS.
See the links in my comment. The new version of GPS is 2.0.

Software isn't important.
But you do need similar brushes, to follow this tutorial.

Scheherazade2c In reply to Chandy84 [2012-05-18 11:59:03 +0000 UTC]

Well, I haven't wrote tutorial for whole body. Cause I would have to include anatomy and everything else, much more work than I wanted to do at the time I made this tutorial.

Nicely done! Thank you!

Just follow this link and find download for GPS 1.5. Download it, then follow the instructions on one of the links in my comment.

Thanks. I would really like to see if this tutorial helps, that's the only reason I asked people to post links to their lion practices. I hope it doesn't sound like a must post links.

Is gimp safe to dowload? and does it have similar tools to photoshop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Scheherazade2c In reply to mollyart2010 [2010-11-09 19:56:41 +0000 UTC]

Safe, of course it is. It doesn't come up with any adware, spyware or virus. It's open source which means anyone can see code with which is written and it's free.
Is it in general Gimp better than Photoshop? No. But I think some things are done better in Gimp. And underestimating Gimp is huge mistake. Look at David Revoy's gallery: [link]
Yes, it has some tools similar to photoshop but it's not the same.
Sorry if I overload you with info.

mollyart2010 In reply to Scheherazade2c [2010-11-10 17:24:10 +0000 UTC]

no not too much info at all! Thank you very much! I am getting a tablet soon and was looking at photoshop but is is just too expensive so I will dowload gimp instead. Thank you again.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Scheherazade2c In reply to mollyart2010 [2010-11-10 19:11:16 +0000 UTC]

No problem. Nothing cost trying out free things. When you get a tablet check out MyPaint . It's also open source, free and save to download.
If you have problems starting with Gimp check out tutorials on GIMPER.NET , gimpusers and GimpTalk and also there are various Gimp groups here on where you can ask for help.
If you wanna do digital painting with Gimp then GPS or Gimp Painter plugins are great help.
Sorry again for information overload.

Do you have installed Gimp Paint Studio?

renurenu [2010-05-10 07:56:23 +0000 UTC]

wow excellent tutorial! my main problem is how to represent mat leather-like materials. suede and patent shiny surfaces are easy with MyPaint brushes (guess with Gimp too), and I actually found brushes someone made for gimp for leather and fur, but they are extremely big so you don't see the effect on smaller surfaces (like my shoes ). if you have any tips on that, please let me know! for example, in these last tree-shoes, i tried to make such an effect by hand, but it's still not perfect.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Scheherazade2c In reply to renurenu [2010-05-10 14:14:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.
I think you are doing fine with mat leather-like materials. I haven't tried paining leather yet, so I don't think I can give you useful tips, but practicing painting textures from a photo can be very helpful. You can modify those brushes you found or made similar but smaller ones.
