Description How it feels when you know what someone needs, but they refuse to do it....

I guess you really can't make a horse drink.

I tried helping a friend try new sports as he is suicidally depressed and he's like"nah I tried it once, it's not for me".....

He has an AWFUL lifestyle and is overweight. Of COURSE he's not in a fit state of mind.

But I guess he would rather be sick.

The moral: STICK WITH IT IF YOU WANT TO GET BETTER.

Anyone drinks a bit when you waterboard them.

I get the feeling behind this 100%, some people just don't want to take the help. It's so frustrating, makes you feel helpless, and then you feel bad for getting upset with them because you know it's not their fault for refusing your help.

Haha, it would seem so. It might just be one of those things you don't get until you've dealt with it before.

why should he give in to how depression makes him feel, though? clearly if he only ever does what he feels like doing he'll never actually be doing anything. sometimes it takes outside influence to get somebody moving forward in this kind of situation.

trust me, i have more than enough personal experience to know all that. i feel like you're assuming too much about this guy, for all we know this might be exactly the sort of help he needs. i would assume his friend knows him enough to get an idea of what would be more likely to work out well and i'm not going to judge when i don't know the guy myself.

well that's a disproportionately negative response to "let's not judge when we don't actually know the person in question"

actually, several of his comics might shine a good light on his condition and it may help to build arguments on that perspective.
If you want to be the support your friend needs, there's a lot of do's 'n dont's in depression to look after, sadly..
Oh 'n beware that you shouldn't let his depression affect you too!

This was my brothers when they were 3-5. Except they would yell and whine. They just.. hated water. I still don't get it. They only didn't like to drink it tho, they were fine with beaches, pools, etc. It was like giving them medicine. 😗

"I tried water once. But I'm still thirsty." Such pearls of wisdom. Thank goodness you made this. I'm never drinking water again.

That was definitely the moral of this story, right?
