Description The above are picture references are Black Tie Attire. I thought that I would post a description with pictures before I finished the tutorial on how to draw Black Tie Attire.

This is for .

Please see below for all the information!

Black Tie or Tuxedo

Material: Wool, or a wool and mohair blend (silk-like fabric or yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat).

The collars are silk or satin faced.

Collars come in two [accepted] variations: the peak collar and the shawl collar (the peak collar thought of as more formal).

Shawl collars comes from the British smoking jacket and the peak collar from the tail coat. There is a third collar style accepted in some European countries as casual wear but we won't get into that.

The single breasted jacket is more common and formal (usually with one button) but the double breasted jacket is now accepted as well.

White tuxedo's are seen in warmer climates and most commonly are ivory with self-faced collars (made from the same fabric as the rest of the jacket instead of silk or satin). "It is worn with the same types of shirts and accessories as a black dinner jacket, though the turndown collar and cummerbund are more commonly seen than the winged collar or waistcoat" (Wikipedia).

The white collared shirt is usually cotton. The buttons of the shirt are NOT to be seen, but if they are they are to be mother-of-pearl.

Cummerbunds, or V or U-shaped vests are commonly worn with Tuxedos.

Tuxedo pants do not have cuffs or belt loops. Braces are used to hold pants up and are covered by the coat.

Oxford shoes are most commonly worn with Tuxedos. Most round-toed, capped dress shoes work for today's fashion.

INTERESTING FACT: "Tuxedo Mask" from the well-known animated show "Sailor Moon" is in fact wearing what resembles a White Tie dress code and not a Black Tie dress code, the latter being a Tuxedo. "White tie (or evening dress, full evening dress; slang top hat and tails or white tie and tails) is the most formal evening dress code. It is worn to events such as balls, the opera, and banquets" (Wikipedia).

When drawing a Tuxedo remember: White Tie and Morning Dress ARE NOT BLACK TIE (TUXEDO). DO NOT MIX THEM!

White Tie is for after 5pm or dark, whichever comes first, Morning Dress is for day time events. Top hats (also known as silk hat, cylinder hat, chimney pot hat or stove or pipe hat) are seen when wearing both.

HELPFUL TERMS:

*A waistcoat is known as a vest in American English.
*Braces are known in North America as suspenders.
