Description Tenebris. The pinnacle of fear in many a nightmare, a mystery in hundreds of legends. His growl radiates through the minds of the strong, turning them weak with fear. His howl is heard for miles, carried on a cool breath of October air. On the darkest mountain he sits, waiting for blood. He’s been described as a great black wolf, his fur as dark as pure onyx, dripping with rusted scarlet. Within him, resides the souls of many. He is the keeper, an angel of death like no other. The great demon bears a cross, not of God, but of his home in the fiery depths of Hell. Of his maker, his master. He bears the cross of malice, of hatred.

This hellhound and I share only little differences. Commissioned from Hell, I too, have the seed of darkness within me, my eyes as black as those of the wolf, as black as the vortex of death that is my soul. On this hill, I stand by his side, violet orbs narrowed as I take in our surroundings, only to shift to charcoal as I sense an intruder in our keep. Tenebris feels it too. His lips pull back over ivory fangs, a sinister glint in his devilish gaze, a sadistic excitement roiling through him, his lean muscles rippling as he stretches, shaking away his light slumber.

“Go forth and claim what is yours, my pet.” I hold out a pale hand, my expression mirroring that of the wolf’s. I blink, and he is gone, thundering down the rocky landscape, moving with a purpose, an animalistic need to devour the light that resides inside the soul of man, to taint it and twist it, to turn it into a swirling ball of sin, of chaos. On it he feeds, gaining the sustenance he needs to thrive in this world, to survive.

Blood dripping from his muzzle as he returns, it is evident the deed is done. Returning to the spot he had occupied only moments ago, he lets his eyes fall shut as if nothing had happened. Beside him, I sit, my own eyes closing as I stroke his fur, taking comfort in the presence of the beast. Finally, sleep takes us both, pulling us into the blissfulness of sleep until we are once again beckoned by the innocence of man.
