i just thought that deviantart is SORELY lacking in the FF6 fanart department. i'm a bit of an old fogey when it comes to FFs... i believe that its pinnacle was at FF6 (FF3 for the SNES). AND NOT FF7. *waves old-man-stick* if you have not played it... then play it. and you will see. and believe!!!!!!!!!!!
or not. im just really sentimental about that game. i think it was one of the major factors in making me the nerd that i am now. haha!!
anyhoo. this is GAU. probably the most underused character in all of final fantasy. hahahahaha! you'd only use him if you learned him some ultima and life3. and whoops! my age is showing again! it's CURE, CURE2 and CURE3, not CURE, CURA and CURAGA. jeez. whipper snappers.
i think he'd be classified into a berserker or something like that if he had to be given a job class. his description in the GBA version is 'feral lad'. wtf. that sounds more gay than it does feral.
anyhoo! i'll stop before i dig my ditch any deeper.

Whoa. This drawing is crazy dynamic. I too felt that FF6/3 was the pinnacle of Final Fantasies (and also the rpg that made me love the genre) and... Truth be told... I was rather bored by FF7. Gau always had a place in my party, but mostly because I just really liked the character. But I digress...

Haha for the record, I'm 18, and I LOVE FF6/FF3 more than any other. I played it with my dad when I was kid. Absolutely love this version of Gau, he looks so much cooler lol

I used to think Gau was a bit goofy as a character (although fun to use), but this pic made me realize how badass a kid raised by wolves who can harness the ability of flesh eating monsters can be, even if he acts silly.

My only sadness was actually that although he's fun to use and I have him in my party a lot, he doesn't contribute much when it comes to "story events" or whatever, so everyone else would say something interesting and dramatic where he'd say.... "Uaou...." kind of a bummer.

That reminds me, I have a file open right now on my GBA. When I get my lunch break at work, I stroll around on the Veldt looking for new creatures and filling up my AP.

Damn, I never got far in FF6...at least I think it was 6. Had it on emulator but there was this part where I had to do a button combo really quickly in a fight and the keyboard wasn't up to it.
But wow, I never caem across this guy. Whether you just made him cooler than he is or whether he's actually cool I dunno, but I love the pic.

FF3/6 = the best ever made. There's nothing more badass than a clown stepping over everyone else and turning himself into a demigod. To be honest, I used Relm less than Gau.

FF6 Was and still is my all time favorite FF game. I have it both for the SNES and GBA.. but sadly.. the GBA version isn't as good. They changed some things which really upset me. Great work. Gau Looks awesome, a little creepy, butyou'd probably look od to if your were raised by the creatures of the Veldt.

Don't get me talking about FF. FF2/4 is my baby. And hell, we had three copies of FF1 because the stupid things kept breaking, but we won't go there. FF7 really can't compare to FF6. I don't think anything can compare to FF6. Or Chrono Trigger. They just don't make games like they used to. :C
And I liked Gau, but didn't like playing him. I never did like the whole "blue mage" thing. Besides, when you've got Edgar and teh mighty chainsaw, there's just no comparison. 8D

I agree with you in thinking one of the best revolutionary ff games was FF3 rather than FF7 (although I was also *really* addicted to FF7).
Well just stopping by to congratulate you on this really cool piece and in hopes that youll do more FF3 art cause as you said, deviantart really lacks those..

I loved Gau...I was one of those people who spent hours at the beginning of the game in the Veldt trying to get him to learn "Cat Scratch" ...I was so young when that game came out for the SNES, yet I still feel so OLD.
