STORMY!!..... Sick Frankie mean more foals!

still on saved babies so sorry kids but still looking at a traditional next season!... should be interesting!

---------------------------

*BANG*

The loud crash of the gate echoed across the yards, sending the small bay colt skittering off with eyes rolling and panicked squeals escaping his small frame.

“Dammit!” John cursed as the wayward foal cannoned into him, sending both of them sprawling in a tangle of legs and panicked baby.

“Sorry” Ryan called from the other paddock “The gate got away from me!”

Neaghe tried not to laugh, then refocused as the Collie franticly spun trying to keep her son in her sight.

Stormy had what Frankie called an Over-developed flight instinct. She said Collie had that as a younger mare, nervy and hysterical around anything new. She had also said that it was workable. Collie had pretty much been cured of the most volatile of these reactions and was now easier to work with, having only the occasional episode. But the colt that was meant to be bred to prevent such intense reactions did not turn out as planned.

Stormy was nearly unreachable when spooked. Running as fast as possible, fleeing anything new and slightly scary. It drove Collie mad. A protective dam she spent most of the time chasing him and guarding him from anything. His temperament flaws seeming to bring out hers again.

So Frankie had set them a mission, Work with the colt every day. Find new places, expose him to new things, scare the poop out of him and make him think about it. They had been working him in the round pen, getting umbrellas, tin foil, trying to do anything to get him used to new things. Police horse trainers came in and left disappointed when he didn’t react. All in a desperate bid to get him calmer before he finished growing.

All that fear in a grown stallion would not be a good thing.

Neaghe sighed as the colt scrambled back onto those long elegant legs with her husband’s help. He wasn’t getting better as fast as they had hoped. Slight improvements had been noticed. The umbrella than now constantly hung on the fence was only spooked at 9/10 times. Good news... maybe.

Frankie tried working with him when she had the time. Collie benefited the most from those days. Her favourite human had a calming effect on her making the work a little easier when there weren’t two frantic horses in the pen. But Frankie wasn’t available every day. Ryan and even Harley offered their time but new people caused as much chaos as anything.

Frankie just the other day had mentioned something they had been hoping to avoid, the dreaded G-word. They had yet to do that to any of the stud horses and had hoped to avoid it but with the colt growing so well and his still uneasy psychological state it was becoming more of an option every day.

The gem of the distance division at KhanCohban had until his first birthday to learn to control his fear.

Registered Name: Maelstrom
Barn Name: Stormy
Sex: Colt
Age: Foal
Breed: Thoroughbred
Appearance: Bay with wide blaze and white chin, one stocking and two socks.
Genetics: Ee-Aa-nSpl
Height: Expected 15hh+
Breeder: *sealle
Owner/Trainer: *sealle
Temperament: Stormy is not what we had hoped for when we bred these two horses. Collie’s earlier blind fear was now tempered by trust and training, Flash was to solidify this calm intelligence in their foal. The resulting creature reminds us a lot of a sheep. Stormy is not bright and he is blind in his fear, never hesitates he will bolt at the first sign of trouble. The most common view of him is tail in the air and a fast receding bum. Once you gain his trust he is a sweet little man, he loves cuddles and attention but only when he is comfortable. Anything new or scary and he will be hiding under mum’s tummy.
History: Our first Collie foal was to be the bright star in our distance breeding. Collie’s pregnancy went off without a hitch and Flash was sent home job well done. Suddenly the bay mare was doe eyed and the happiest we have ever seen her. Then the Stormy popped into the world, a week before the expected date Collie showed signs of dropping, and since then the calm mare we knew was replaced by a worried mother who’s young charge would not stay still and constantly acted like he was about to be eaten.
Sire x Dam: With the Wind x Cold Shower

I was thinking that but we shall see how it goes. Hes not really the best with other horses as they seem to frighten him too, especially when they are nervy, bouncy or agressive.... but once he is weaned we will throw him in with our 'Nanny' and hopefully Swift will be slow and careful enough to help him a bit..... if he doesnt get better we might try another horse or animal... bleh.. its all up to the RNG's.....
